Hi All,
I've got a nasty buzz/rattle in my revcounter when the needle hits the 3K zone, so I'm considering buying a replacement unit on Ebay (part: 6N0920804E)
Is it easy to replace, and if so, will the milage shown on the LCD display still be correct? (In other words: is the milage stored in the unit ITSELF, or is it passed on from another source in the car?)
Also, can I replace the standard unit for a GTI (chrome unit) providing I get the matching glareshield as well?
Thanks!

Don't do it, you'll probably fond it's the rubber bung on the air intake where it pops through the wing. If you can put a rubber washer behind it it will sort it. Such a common prob took me ages to find it though so lad I didn't replace my clusters
Re: Instrument cluster swap: can it be done?
Thanks for your reply Ben,
Can you tell me how I can acces that particular spot? Is it behind the instrument cluster?
Also, isnt the problem you're describing more a an aircon/heater problem? Or did you have the same issue where the buzz/rattle seemed to emanate from the rev counter (around 3000 revs, when you release the accelerator pedal)
Cheers,

Yeah wa only when I released the pedal around 2500-3000 basically pop the indicator out on the drivers side and follow the air pie through from the air box to where it attatches to the wing. I'll try get pictures but it won't be till next week. It's an easy job though. This noise drove me mad for months but it's common on the boras too.

Cheers Ben, some pics are very much appreciated indeed.
It seems this is a very common fault then?..

Yeah fairly common mate. Like I said drove me mad it's fairly easy to find anyway if you get a chance to look. The intake pipe pops off of the bung on the wing. Im a novice and had no idea what I was looking fr and managed it
