1.8T BAM engine conversion

Post by NFS »

Wrote off the cupra r a week ago and have thought of buying the car back to put the engine into my polo. Its a BAM 1.8T engine remapped to 270bhp. I have rang JBS Autodesigns but they have told me that they only do engine conversions on engines supplied by them only. Also rang TSR and they have told me they want £4000 to make driveshafts, VRS gearbox as the original 6-speed 1.8t gearbox will not fit?!

So i was wondering if anyone on here could recommend a good garage or someone that is experienced in 1.8t engine conversion. Im based in Nottingham so someone close by would be perfect as the cupra is not driveable.

i presume this is in a polo gti 6n2 right?

Can't think of any garages of the top of my head, but i know for sure to make the 6 speed fit you'll need to start cutting chassis legs etc. Better off using a 5 speed...

Yh its into a polo gti. Would a 5 Speed box be able to handle the 270bhp from a BAM engine? Also any ideas on how much it would roughly cost for the conversion? I will be using the brembo 4pot brakes from the cupra if that is possible.

The 5speed from the cupra models (AYP) should handle the 270 odd break fine. I image the conversion would be pretty costly- i guess if you paid someone else to do it i would put it in the region of around 4-5K?

the four pots won't fit under the 15" bbs- you would also need adapters for mounting the calipers.

If I'm honest engine conversions and gearboxs and such go straight over my head, but Have a little looky at these threads I know the second one Jamies car was a gooden.
There may be some useful info you can use. :D
The first one mentions a gearbox in the list on the first page.

Ive got jamies old polo now.

Hi-spec four pots fit the wheels with 20mm spacers. The box ive got is a five speed and seems to be doing fine.

Not sure what the box is from. All i know is that it is an o2r code.
