im in cardiff, they were taken off an early mk3 golf gti 16v, 280mm

yep, but the same fitment as mk2 golf g60 4 stud etc etc, will also fit on polo 16v, polo 6n2 gti tdi, anything with bolt on calipers. its just a matter of getting the correct disks for your car i.e 4 stud or 5 stud

Have you got the part numbers stamped into the carrier? There is a known issue with 5 stud carriers used on 4 stud cars as the disc has a slightly different thickness.

they have the manufactures part number stamped, will have to wait till i get home to check what it is, no vag part number on them though. from memory, i remember numbers quite well, something like 32323538/1 maby. there is a difference in brake disk thickness from 256mm disks to 280mm. the 256 set up runs 20mm thick disks, where as 280 mk2 G60 and early mk3 gtis and vr6 are 22mm. this is where if you were to run 280mm carriers with standard 256 calipers you would maby need to shave a mm or 2 off the slider pin head to accommodate new pads, running the full set up negates the need to do this.
