Nice Plates! I really want to get a decent (legal) set for mine.
They're 15s Nigel, love the centre caps also! The plates are great too, i got them done by Dubmeister in somerset. Turn around was 5 or so days and i sent my V5 and an old ban statement for id recorded delivery for a few pence- came to 40 quid thereabouts in all.

Re: Joe's 3rd Gti Progress Thread- Bumpers to be sprayed!

Post by joe2612 »

Down at brooklands again last night and chatting to my mates sprayer who said he'll respray my bumpers next week, hopefully the bodywork side of the car will pretty much be perfect :D

In other news, i'm looking for a sharkfin aerial that actually gives good reception- anyone recommend?

Still chasing a bbs bolt- has anyone attempted to drill one out before...?

Good news about the paintwork :) my bumpers are really really letting my car down, but other things just keep popping up so I can never afford to get it done.

There's chap on clublupo who sells sharkfin aerials, which are ment to be really good.

My boyfriend had to drill a bolt out of his g40 engine bay before. That was amusing. Had to buy some stud extractors.
Is the bolt snapped? I took my rxIIs apart th other week to refurb them, luckily only 4 rounded off (were like that before we started) but we managed to get them out easily enough in the end thank god!

Bolt isen't snapped, just rounded. Hand slipped whilst torquing them up and that was that :(

How did you get them out Verity?

Excuse my lame explanation, I'm not great with explanations, specially with tools.... but basically you know the thingy you put in the end of the racket (the star shaped thing...torque maybe?!) well you basically get a different shaped one, I think the number was T30 or T35, one that basically has less star pionts on it.
Grab a hammer and just give it a few taps, just so it kind of lodges in the top of the bolt,
And then you can just unscrew it with the rachet like normal. Sounds a bit dodgey, but worked perfectly on all 4 rounded bolts.

.....if that makes no sence let me know and I'll try and find out some proper tool names for you lol

Also before undoing all the bolts I also sprayed them with duck oil first and gave them all a tap with a hammer, and left it all to soak for a day or so. Sounds odd but they all came out easier then the first two bolts I originally tried to undo.

Got the jist of it verity :) however i fear mine are too mangled and ideally i need a 9mm spline piece...

I also tried to straighten my camber up today as i thought maybe that's whats causing my shocks to bang over small bumps ( a problem i've had since fitting the spax in March )- guess what... Didn't work

Think i'm just going to have to accept being out of pocket and by another pair.

Managed to bag myself these beauty's for a tidy £108:)

They had previously been in storage for 5 years, so needless to say required a major clean!

Rears before:

Rears after:

Also stripped the rear out for some sound deadening :):

I like this shot :)

Also had the tracking and camber done- opted for 0.05º toe in and 0.5º negative camber. Handling is noticeably much better!! especially couples with the lower strut brace..
