[Help] 5x100 to 5x112/118 Adapters... I Think?

Post by iFresh »

Greetings Peeps!

Wondering if you guys – the Polo fountains of knowledge can possible lend me some of your expertise!

I've recently bought a MkIV Polo and have a few sly plans for her…

However, my first acquisition has not gone smoothly.

I know my car is 5x100 (I haven’t measure – I've gone on generic google searching results) and I took a punt on some allows where the seller said they were “5 Stud” but did not have any further information.

I've gone there… Picked them up… tried to fit… and they don’t.

I'm assuming they are 5x118 – but how to actually measure it – ill google later and do it properly next time I'm out in the garage.

However,

How do I get these to fit if they are 5x112/118 and mine I believe to be 100.

Do I have to buy spacers/adapters for them?

If so – where’s the best place to go? I seem to get contradicting advice – as my “tyre guy” reckons they will cost me £120 (not sure if he implied “from him” with that) but searching eBay – I'm finding £80 + P&P to be the cheapest by far.

Does anyone know if A) I require these adapters (and if I need spacers too – and perhaps tell me why I need them – as I'm not sure what they do?!) and B) if adapters is the answer/only answer, then is there a better place to find them? Ideally I'm looking at £50 absolute tops – but like I said – the wheels were a bargain – so I don’t want to double my investment by spanking fifty notes on adapters.

Bottom line, I could clean these up and probably sell on eBay for 200% profit… But they do look pretty mean and would look smart on the Polo.

Advice?

Cheers in advance everyone!

if yours is a mk4 then it wont be 5 stud, you must have a 9n (mk6) they are indeed 5x100. the wheels you have id say are either 5x110, 5x114, 5x112 or 5x120, never seen any 5x118.

adapters are the only way to get these to fit. the prices you have seen will most certainly be for a pair of adapters, circa £80 upwards, you will need 4 so double that.

measuring the wheels them selves

It would appear I stand corrected – it may be a Mk5 (I'm still not 100% to tell you the truth – but I think it might be).

I can do the measurements no problems.

But that still leaves me with the “Purchase” problem.

£80 a pair is definitely not going to fly…

Is it best to hold out on eBay – or is there anywhere banging out 2nd hand ones?

Id probably make more money buying some Alloys + Adapters off eBay – then reselling the wheels!?

So if its 112 (for example) whats the ball park “walk-into-a-shop-price”?

Are these things available in Halfrauds?

Massive dilemma… I think the “sod it, lets resell them” option is looking massively appealing now :(

Ooooo... and I found out the alloys I bought came off a Vauxhall Vectra.

No version or year, just told "Vectra" by the seller.

I admit – they were close to fitting when I tried them, so 100 to 110 sounds about right.

So, is the mission 5x100 to 5x110 Adapters?

Not a shelf product, so I need to find a firm that does them and see what the going rates are?

I sense getting a set of 4 for <£50 is going to be a Sale of the Century.

Being realistic and not trying to scare me off the subject… What should I consider RRP and what would be a ‘Good price’ to chew someones hand off for?

I've just found the ones I bought – some dude has them for £450!?

If I was going to get rid (if this whole Adapter quest fails) – can someone recommend a decent price that isn’t pants down?

If I need to shift them on, I did have to drive some serious miles to get them… So wouldn’t mind making perhaps £60 profit on them (after fees of course)

that guy will never sell them at that price, they are called wolfrace octanes, been around a good few years now, and cost roughly that new to be honest. sorry to pee on your chips.

in fact i sold a set of these a few months ago in 5x100 for £120 with tyres. may be better off selling them on and getting a set that fits. adapters are going to be £150 easy
