Insurance Advice!

Post by concept-e »

Hi,

Thought you guys could help. I have a mk3 cl coupe, and have been driving since last october. Im 18 and obviously insurance is a problem. However, I have got to that stage where iam sick and tired of having the acceleration of a (<insert very slow thing here>) and I have always been obessed with the g40/mk3 coupe shape. So I feel it is about time I got myself a g40 and just put up with the insurance. But before i can even start to save I want to get an idea of what I can expect to pay, the best companies to insure with basically. I have tried the usual big names. My most recent quote was £3500 a year from Elephant, for Third Party Only!!!!! I appreciate I don't even qualify for a years no claims, but surely someone could offer nearer the £2000 mark?? I have driving experience under my dad's name with no claims.

Anyone got any advice?? And no I can't wait another year or so!

Steve

You could just get it insured under your dads name and be a named driver until your 19 or 20yrs old. I can see that is the only way you will get insurance on it

Brentacre do really good insurance deals but you have to be 19yrs old at least to qualify for the enthusiasts policy.

Try HIC/Adrian Flux. Ones in the back of the VW mags.

My friend is selling his modded G40 and he is only 18yrs old and only paying £1100 but that was a deal through his racing contacts. And he drives a 465bhp/ton single seater racing car!

Ive got a Polo CL that has a Factory fit as standard NZ GT 78bhp engine that is all detrimmed etc that may be up for sale soon for around £650 if your interested. Group 6 insurance for what is a GT engined polo!!!

Everyone dreams of owning a G40, but youve got to realise that your too young, drive a normal polo for a few years, build up your experience and driving ability and NCBs first before trying a G experience. Just concentrate on body mods or something. You've got to learn to walk before you can run.

I got an insurance quote of 900 pounds and i am 19 and have a years driving experience but no no claims. I have done my pass plus which brings the insurance down by 40 % with Norwich Union. The car is fitted with a cat 2 alarm and is approved, the car is parked on the drive and limited to 10,000 miles a year 3rd party. Try Norwich Union, it's not worth paying any more than a 1000 pounds if you don't need to.

Hopefully getting a g40 tomorrow

i guess you could do pass plus and also the advanced driving test - both will help.

what about other medium-speed cars but low insurance?

perhaps get a classic - diiiiiiiiirt cheap insurance!

edit: I have only just got my first "faster" car - after 8 years of driving :( and it's only a 16v! Insurance is such a stopper - I sympathise with you.

that is the best advice in this thread. People who pay 2k+ for insurance on things like G40s (which dont even cost that much to buy) are mad! As Paul said learn to walk before you can run, get some NCB & more driving experience before you jump into something like that.

Yeh i understand now! But you know how it is, once you have that polo bug, you can't stop! I thought I was going to keep my polo pretty much standard when I first bought it, and now 12 months later ive spent over £2100 on my CL. Must admit i have thoroughly enjoyed it. Although every mod, other than my induction kit isn't engine based.

I have decided insurance on a GT is quite reasonable and this would be a good next step+experience. So if you or anyone you know is selling a GT, im on the look out for one, as my "Wanted" section post details.

Thanks guys,

Steve

Yeh will have a look mate. Thanks. My CL is on the mk3 picture post. The red CL. I think you even left me feedback, if you check a post under the mk3 section called my mk3 cl coupe photos.

Ive got BBS RX's, think they come off a mk3 golf convertible,
tinted windows,
all g40 bits-arches, skirts, rear clusters, grille, all clear indicators,
custom made exhaust,
mk2 golf cl splitter at front/rear
g40 interior
usual sound system stuff
K&N induction kit, from mk3 golf

Lots more!!!
