Sad day and first post !

Post by CREAD »

Hi,

I have been looking at this forum for a good number of years but i am ashamed to say i haven't managed to add to one single post but i have managed to get a good deal of info from so many.

I have just recently been told by my Dr that i am un-able to drive anymore for the foreseeable future due to a tumor that i have had to have get removed from my brain so my little 6n2 Gti will be stood idle, i cant see any other option due to space but to sell, would it be possible for the folks of the forum to advise the best method of sale... On here or Autotrader etc, i have never had to sell a car privately before as i have had this one for 11yrs and don't want to just trade it in so it gets scrapped.

Its a 6n2 Black Gti on a 2000 (W) with 58k on the clock.

Sorry if i have put this in the wrong section

I'm so sorry to hear about the tumour, I hope your road to recovery is very quick, and that one day you'll be driving again.

Ive gone through a few cars, mainly due to getting bord with them.I've tried, autotrader, forums, eBay, pistonheads, Local Paper, and printed signs in windows.
eBay and Signs in the windows I found worked best personally.
When I sold my old 6n2 SE I had loads of interest from people who saw me driving around (Polos are very very popular where I live) I had a few people interested on pistonheads, but they were manly people offering stupid prices.
And eBay was good for 2 other cars I've sold, got lots of interest from people all over the country

Good luck with the sale! And getting back to full health!

Wow you've owned the gti for 11 yrs, there can't be many on here who've owned that long.

As far as selling goes, i've had success selling cars with the ebay 'classified' ads, rather than an ebay auction & autotrader. I actually bought my gti from an ebay classified ad too so would recommend.

A Well written, honest advert with lots of pics will get lot's of attention & v.low milage with only 58k will help it sell. Best luck with the sale. :D

11 long and fantastic years i have had her. The first owner got her for his wife and she didn't like it so returned it to the dealer within a week. I had less than 800 miles on the clock when i got her. I am getting her detailed next week so will get all the pictures done then. The engine bay is also on the list to be cleaned.

I have been looking at the ebay thing and the prices of the 6N2 GTi are all over the place. Some are 2k and some are no reserve. I just watched a V plate with more miles go for £1505 or something around that range. I will write a add and also pop it in the for sale section after Wednesday with pics.

I would love it to go to someone who will look after her and maybe turn her from the factory spec to maybe a little tuned machine.

What a shame to have to sell her after such a long and loyal ownership. As Verity said i hope your road to recovery is as well as can be.

I bought my car from somebody like yourself who had had it for 9 years when i bought it,owned from new.I bought mine from Auto trader,it had avery well written Spec and good pictures.I was the first to view and had to buy it.

I'd recommend genuine sites like this sites for sale section of course (To encourage the genuine enthuiast),Autotrader and Ebay classifieds would be my favourites.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your tumor but dont let it sell the GTI, my mom had a brain tumor and they managed to remove it ok and she was fine within a few months and she is still driving now (this was about 15 years ago when she had it removed).

I have recently been diagnosed with aggressive relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis and the DVLA may decide to take my license away or at best reduce it to a 3 year license, i will find out in 5 weeks.

Even if they take my license away i dont think iwould sell my GTI, i love it too much.

Keep your chin up mate and i hope everything goes well for you.

If you want to talk to me about anything, PM me or add me on Facebook - Neil Faultless

Take Care

Neil.

Hi, Neil thanks for your very kind words and support. I am staying positive and taking it one day at a time. The car needs to find a new owner so they can enjoy her half as much as I have.

If is sell I will still read and watch with interest all the posts on here an you never know I will snap another one up.
