Engine conversion

Hi, I was considering 2 options for my car.
1st, Buy a 9n2 GTi and tune the engine in that or,
2nd, Do an engine conversion on my 6n2 GTi,

But I don't have the knowledge or experience at the moment to do a conversion so I have a few question...

What engine that can be highly tuned fits straight in as I don't want to cut and shut my engine bay?
What other things do I need to consider when doing a conversion other than suspension and breaks?
Any tips really and knowledge would be so useful

Right, first of all- tuning a 1.8t 9n2 would be miles easier as this engine is one of the most tuned on the road so resource is not scarce.

The engine to put in a 6n2 Gti is a 1.8t itself- and it is by far straight forward. Suspension and brakes are the least of your worries lol..

You would need a AYP engine lump, gearbox, loom, driveshafts, ecu

You'll need custom gearbox mounts, engine mounts made up plus a knowledge of ecu / loom wiring.

1.8T in a 6n2 isnt by any means easy - you need to shorten the 1.8T driveshafts for one!

Expect to pay in the region of 3-5k for a proper job on a conversion such as this.

Haha just as I thought, not an easy task,
I will not be doing this on my own then!
I don't suppose anyone knows of any companies that do engine conversions? This is something I would like to look into a bit further just so I know prices ect.

Might be worth trying to get in contact with a chap by the user name of 'jamie1.8pologti'
He was on club polo (dunno if he still goes on) and he's on clublupo as he's now got a lupo gti

Cheers for that verity, Looking at his thread and he doesnt seem to know much about the car :S Someone asked what box it was and he didnt know... Weird.

To put it simply your best selling your 6N2 GTI and replacing it with a 9N3 GTI, its dead money otherwise

Yeah this. I've only had my 9n3 a day and while part of me misses the 6n2, the difference between the two is amazing, don't think I could go back

Agreed. properly 4k+ for the conversion, gear box etc, and whilst it would be incredible, the car would properbly be only worth an extra £1500 if you tried to sell.

9n3 gti, remap, easy

Ive seen JBS before and thought their website looked good, Ill send them an email or ring them when I get the chance to get more information about the conversion

Got me quite excited! Apart from I live in Portsmouth and they are in Derbyshire aha, 7 hour drive XD

If it is a no I will definatly be getting a 9n2 as I want more power to play with and this car does not offer that

JBS Charge £8K for an engine conversion

that's more than a 9N3 GTI
