1.4 16V AHW PINKING Grrr!

Post by craggles »

Been happening for a while now,the dam thing is pinking under load and im not sure where to go with it,so i thought id ask on here if anyone has experianced it and how/if they solved it.

Ill start of by saying what i've done so far which isn't much

Checked sparked plugs are correct
Had cambelt done anyway so had the timing checked twice (it did it before the belt change)
Blanked of EGR at throttle body and still did it
Throttle body was cleaned march 2010/reset
New engine temp sensor fitted same time as throttle body
Using standard unleaded in the car

I'm pulling my hair out now on what else to do with it,I understand the knock sensor could be faulty, but I have never had an ECU light throw up on the car yet,and its just past its M.O.T so maybe rule out lambda sensor/s.As th timing is done via the ECU there is nothing I can about that area.

What else would be causing this issue?Really appreciate 'any' ideas big small, trivial or technical..thanks alot

Im not sure TBH as ive not taken it out, there is 2 on the car in total.,I thought it may have thrown a light up if it was something to do with them??

And thanks, thought it was MK4 lol so im in the right place

thing is driving me mad,,Im told knock sensor could be at fault,or just loads of carbon in the engine 102k its done.

Anyone know if this could be caused by carbon build up,and is there anything on the market that will clean out the carbon without removing the head??

ive come across Wynns Combustion Chamber and sefoam think it is both require it to be taken in via a vaccum intake.

i had this exact same problem on mine. I unplugged my egr valve and was fine. Had the engine light on but that never bothered me and the car ran alot smoother and quicker

Hi mate, thought about the EGR,but its a mechanical one,the one thing I can unplug from it is a vaccum pipe,Ive read about the electronic EGR's where people have unplugged the power to it and its solved it.

What I did try was I made a complete gasket and blanked it of at the throttle body, but it made no difference really.

Going to get a price for a compression test today and see if its carbon on the engine
