Thanks ben :) the only reason i changed it was because the paintwork on it wasn't brilliant. I would have kept it the same if i had the choice, but i still like it :D

Easy job to spray on the car dude... 1 to 1.5 hours work at a body shop.....

Would look better n you can tidy up some other bits...

The splitter is damaged craig - it'd need replacing if it was going to be sprayed, plus it was sprayed in situ previouly therefore removing it will destroy the bumper paintwork

Take all that, and then the cost of bodyshop work these days and its just impractical!

End of the day, if greg wants it black he can have it black!

Ah I must be the only person here who doesn't like the splitter colour coded on polos

Splitters are so darn expensive to. Mine is broken underneath, by an unlucky fox, thankfully the damage is hidden, so I just have the odd scrape and scratch at the bottom of the splitter

Re: Greg's Progress Thread :) - Refurbing the wheels

Post by gregperkins »

Couple of updates :)

Well tonight Im splitting my rims and going to spend the whole weekend giving them a polished lip. It has needed to be done for a couple of years, but Alex never got round to it and the time has come for me to do it :D

The centres will be be painted professionally at a later date.

I have a new set of fog lights on the way (because one of mine cracked on the motorway), along with some 'subtle tint' lamin-x film for them to avoid the same happening again.

Have also got a new sticker ;)

Will upload some pics when done!

have fun with the wheels. polishing up the rims was by far my fave part of refurbing mine. sat in the garden with a cup of tea and the radio on :D
i need some new foggies so bad. the stone chips are unbelievable (tho luckily not cracked like yours ;) ) good idea on protecting them. as soon as i get my new foggies and sidlights (...one day, one day) theyll be getting paint protecting film on them the same as my headlights.

always look forward to seeing updates of this car :D

Thanks Verity :D

Yeah i've bee refurbing some for my Dad, and i've had the radio on aswell 8) The wheels are the only thing that lets the car down really, so thought it was about time something was done about them seeing as its going to be a nice weekend :)

Yeah its always best to protect them :D i dont do any motorway driving atall really, it just randomly happened

When swapping my wheels over earlier i noticed all my center cap clips have broken, so need to order some more!

Hmmm either domed VW ones, or the classic VW ones? Thoughts? 8)

Will upload pics tomorrow :)

The lips of the wheels are done :D started at 9:30 this morning, and finished at 5:30. Am very pleased with the results. Had a few nasty kerbing marks that i managed to get out pretty much all the way :D I didn't go for a mirror shine as i thought doing it the way i did it is more original and blends better with the centres :)

Got some before, during and after pics below 8)

Nitromors 8):

Some spider corrosion:

Some kerbing:

After the kerbing was sanded out:

End results :D:

The centres are being taken to a wheel place on Monday and should be ready for collection by Tuesday evening, and then they are going back on :D

New centre caps are ordered, fog lights should come this week. Watch this space 8)

Good job on the wheels greg, I've spent the day doing exactly the same thing, but I only got 2 wheels done.......I take long tea breaks......
I Like the dull effect you've got, i went for the shiny autosol approach, I'll put some pics on my thread.

My bbs centre caps have lost most of their clips, silicone is holding one in. I'll need some new ones for these 16''s I'm refurbing. The bbs ones are like £30-40  , how much are the vw centre caps?
