From memory I think big_amir's GTI started like yours (I might be wrong) with low consumption. Mine is also getting worse as the miles build up my first litre on factory oil was 1600 miles and my last litre top up was 700 miles, so I will soon be under the 600 mile thresholdgavs wrote:Update form me, I did a HARD run in on my car and so far, 3000kms (2500 miles I think) and it would have been lucky to have used 1 litre of oil. A mate of mine here also has a polo GTI, his used a fair bit in the first 2000kms, topped up with LiquiMoly oil and has hardy drunk a drip!

Spoke to my dealer today and have booked the car in next week for some further investigation. I was told that they need to determine if it needs a new engine or notEdi30 wrote:From memory I think big_amir's GTI started like yours (I might be wrong) with low consumption. Yes - good decision, they will probably put you on the 1000km test even though the dealer is likely to acknowledge the problem anyway.Edi30 wrote:Spoke to my dealer today and have booked the car in next week for some further investigation. I am not sure what's best, a new engine or replacement of piston rings, either way it's not good for a new car.

Re: Using Oil!
My car already had 2 1000km controlled oil checks. The dealer is investigating what work needs to be done so yes agree not what I really want but I am not going to worry about it until I know what work will be done.skipster wrote:

Ah - I see, we are on our 1000km test now, I will go ballistic with them if they insist on a second one, my dealer did try and justify the work to VW but they were having none of it.Edi30 wrote:My car already had 2 1000km controlled oil checks. Brilliant! Are you on the '1000 km test' Daydotz?
Using Oil!
I am I expect it's for my own safety lol I thought the girl at the service was joking when she said it had been sealed closedskipster wrote:Brilliant! Are you on the '1000 km test' Daydotz?
Re: Using Oil!
It does seem somewhat bizarre, you may want to check it, just to see how it is doing. If you break the seal, VW will think you may have added more oil and insist on another testdaydotz wrote:I am I expect it's for my own safety lol I thought the girl at the service was joking when she said it had been sealed closedskipster wrote:Brilliant! They have told me not to touch it I've been told if the oil light comes on contact them an they will collect it I can understand the thinking behind it just made me laugh it's going to take me a while to reach 1000km Thoughskipster wrote:It does seem somewhat bizarre, you may want to check it, just to see how it is doing. Car was in today and needs to have piston rings/scrapers replaced, so waiting for a date when the work is to be carried out.skipster wrote:Ah - I see, we are on our 1000km test now, I will go ballistic with them if they insist on a second one, my dealer did try and justify the work to VW but they were having none of it.Edi30 wrote:My car already had 2 1000km controlled oil checks. The dealer showed me the technical bulletin that has been sent to dealers explaining the issues and a series of tests that need to be carried out to establish if the work needs to be done.
I am not impressed like the rest of you with the same problem that this work needs to be done
Re: Using Oil!
Hi Edi30, yes it does not surprise me sadly, in some of your earlier posts on the subject you said that you were having to do a lot of top ups, at the dealers expense luckily!
We are still only 200 mies into the old 1000km test, so a way to go yet. You mentioned that your dealer showed you the tech bulletin, what kind of things do the dealers do to test?
One thing which I did mention to my dealer is about the catalytic convertor, the oil burning could potentially be damaging the components within it.
It would not surprise me if nothing shows up with the Cat but you wonder if it will shorten the life of it. Good luck with yours when you get it fixed.

Will keep you posted on progress and will be keeping an eye on yours and all others tails of woe
Re: Using Oil!
Hey Edi30, don't suppose you might be able to get friendly with your dealer so you can get a copy of that bulletin, VW here are refusing to admit that there is an oil consumption issue yet.
