Air Conditioning!

Post by Si_GTi »

After yet another trip to my local VW garage I've now finally got my air conditioning fixed! Regassed for the modest fee (!!) of £120. But crikey does it take some power off the engine... is it just me or is that pretty normal? I'm gonna have to turn it off to overtake cars... :?

On the plus side its frosty when its turned on 8)

picked mine up yesterday... they say they have finally fixed the air con... faulty mechanism linked to the compressor... all done under warranty. Seems to be working... kinda ok... it does cool the car but not frosty?! driving later on so will test it again then

does seem to take a little bit of power from the engine...

It's weird, on my Mk5 Polo 1.4 75bhp, I could honestly not notice any performance decrease with having the aircon on or off, and I used to flog that car to an inch of its life.

On the Lupo GTI, it's hugely noticeable whether it's on or off, even when you drive the car normally.

I'll second that, been toying with ripping out all the a/c stuff as I never use it anyway!

Just been out for a spin on me lunch break and yeah, it really is very noticeable whether the a/c is on or off. On my parent's TDi 130 Bora it really doesn't make any kind of dent in the performance though!

Oh and yeah I admit 'frosty' was a bit of an exaggeration but on Tuesday I was without a/c and it was 28°C! Both windows down, sunroof wide open and still cookin'! I think I meant that in comparison it was frosty :D

thanks Si... beginning to think mine wasn't fixed properly but think it must be... def felt cold in the cabin with it on... when I got out the car I felt a heatwave! I'm just overly paranoid as has taken sooooooo long to get this problem sorted... I'm talking 7 months now!! :x

Mine makes no difference to fuel consumption or acceleration if I turn Climatronic to Auto or Econom.

Have to agree with Josh. I don't notice any difference in fuel economy and only a tiny difference in performance when i use the climate, so I just keep it on all the time. Can't beat cruising around at 18c inside when it's 30c outside and everyone else is melting.

I notice a fairly significant drop in performance, I make sure to turn it off when I overtake !

Can't say I've noticed much difference with the air-con on or off but I do use it...very nice when it's baking outside and you are sitting comfortably in traffic...
