Yes I will be going to Stage 2, so I am working on sourcing the turbo back exhaust now and an intercooler and intake as well :D

Nice. Revo were telling me that most of the oil consumption issues are caused by the stock map and plugs creating the misfires, causing bore wash. Which results in the oil blowing by the rings.

Yep, had a long chat with Kev and Carl about it, some new plugs with a shorter body also help too.

Are you telling me the Revo stage 1 solves the problem haha? Is there really that much difference to standard then? :)

Yes, it will add around 30hp, so thats pretty impressive. Plus it maps out all the imperfections in the standard map. 8)

Im kind of thinking i should book mine in with Revo for milltek / stage 1 and new plugs on the day of delivery.

That is very good! Well I have a 2011 11plate GTI and its had a new engine already, and the oil issue has came up again so im trying for a new gti as im fed up now or getting a GTD golf! But if the Revo software fix's this problem I may have words with my vw garage!

Well I can think of one or two reasons why they say the stock map needs changing...

Plug gap has been the source of lot of misfires. It's far too big as standard - almost as if the plugs are worn out when new.

Bore wash, aka glazed bores, yeah? So, (I'm just trying to get more info, one poor guy here has had 2 engines in 5 weeks in his oil-burning GTi and I'm trying to help him out with as much info as I can get) Revo are saying that their tune will help alleviate oil consumption issues? If true, are they saying that for any benefit, the bores need re-honing before teh benefits occur?

It's interesting what you say because the guys at APR Australia have been running the tune on their Polo GTI since around the 800km mark I believe and other than an oil change at 1500kms, there is nothing other than the tune (along with exhaust, intercooler, carbonio intake now being a stage 2 car) that has been done to the and theirs doesn't burn oil......

Anyone in the know at DNA tuning by chance or Viezu over there......?

Not sure about DNA/Viezu, they don't seam to crop up much for 1.4TSI tuning over here from what I have seen recently.

I know Shark performance have completed their development on a file for the 1.4TSI so will try to get hold of Ben to see what his view on this is.

Well my ECU is out and is currently being reflashed so should be done within the hour :D

As a follow up, I have spoken tithe only Australian based major tuner and he has ( indirectly) that there is nothing software-based that can be done regarding the oil consumption, the bore-wash can be changed but he doubts that would do anything because unlike what I interpreted, bore wash is a cooling method to cool down the cylinders by over fueling the cylinder. As he said, this would have no effect on the oil consumption, it's more of a mechanical issue from run-in, not something that can be fixed by software. Still, no excuse not to get a tune:):)

When the misfire occurs, it causes over fuelling. Which creates the bore wash, effectively, stripping the glaze from the cylinder liners and causing oil to blow by the piston rings/scrapers. This then gets combusted.

Revo are stating that they can iron out the misfires with their software. As well as a plug change, which improves things greatly.

Much better, it pulls much better in the top of the rev range and with more urgency low down, only got 30miles on it so want to run it a bit more before casting my final judgement :D

Also dropped in on Andy @ ITG so a new intake for the Polo GTI will be available soon too 8)
