Indeed - all the best with your new Golf Edi30. That is a very nice choice. Any idea how long you will have to wait for it?

I am sorry it did not work out with the GTI, it must have been very frustrating. As for my car, well I can cautiously say that the new rings appear to be doing the trick, I have already done nearly 300 miles since the new rings were fitted and I have not seen any smoke out the exhaust. I need to give it a lot longer before judging it though.

But yes, I am sure you will enjoy the Edition 35! Awesome motor! :-)

Thanks guys, I do feel very disappointed about the Polo as it is a great car and I have really enjoyed owning it, but I am not prepared to put up with major issues with a new car. Anyway looking forward I can't wait for the ED35 to turn up, not sure how long it will be probably 16 weeks. Keep us posted on progress with your rebuilt engines.

Not enjoying reading about all the problems people are having to be honest, with one of these on order. I ordered one in 2010, but due to the delays, cancelled it. Had a few cars in between, and now ordered another.

Does anyone think that VW will be fitting the revised rings/scrapers on all new engines?

Ha! Wishful thinking my friend! :) According to them, there is no issue, hence why it is only a service fix! It will be a cold day in hell before VAG admits there is a problem with something they have done.

I've had the ring/scraper upgrade and the car is driving beautifully, time will tell concerning oil consumption. Despite everything I still love the car every time I get into it and drive away. Some guys are reporting no problems at all with their cars and you could be one of those. If not, then consumer law is your friend.

Mine uses some oil and smokes when I give it some power, but its not excessive and my consumption is under 1 litre per 1000miles, doesn't affect the performance either as its still very quick. I'm on 8k miles now.

We have been on holiday to Cornwall this week and have already done 450 miles or so since I picked my car up from the dealer (post piston ring upgrade). Good news is that I have seen no oil smoke from the exhaust and the oil level is still at maximum, this would have dropped in that mileage previously.

Tentatively - it is looking promising that the ring upgrades are working! :)

A few guys here have founhnd that even after getting VW top-ups with oil, the car is still burning heaps of it. Then, after going to aftermarket oil, namely Liqui Moly, their oil consumption has drastically dropped over the same driving conditions.

I wonder if this is a specific oil issue also....
