B's Polo GTI

Post by bekkibum »

Hi all,
Just got myself a Silver Polo 6N2 GTI. I've heard no one really has an easy ride with them, as far as problems go and I guess I'm no exception.

So, I've had the car about 2 weeks...First things first, I found a slight oil leak. Took the car to VW and was told it was coming from my throttle body? Now this apparently, could either be the throttle body itself, or just a seal. Difference in price between the two problems...over £900. The car is still under a months warranty from the garage we bought it from in Wales. However, I need to take it to a garage up near where the car currently is in Huddersfield, to see what they say and how much they quote me to do the work.

Now, I would be taking it to the garage this weekend, except yesterday, I was driving along, as you do and the clutch cable snapped, YAY. So the car is now currently sat in the car park waiting to be repaired. I'm quite fortunate to have a flat mate who studies automotive engineering at uni and has mechanic contacts. I should therefore be able to get the labour very cheap, I'm hoping for the cost of a few pints. One question though...Where do I buy a clutch cable? haha!

Thanks all,
B

See if you have a GSF where you live.

That sucks dude! Well, I'm hoping this is the last thing now for a while, as I am super skint. Managed to get a clutch cable for £28 on trade, thanks to my flat mate and his handy contacts. Should be picking it up tomorrow and having it fitted either tomorrow, or on the weekend, phew. I'll be back on the road once more!

I've remembered I've got to tax the bloomin' thing 'n all before the 31st. Just going to tax it for 6 months 'cause for all I know, it could be off the road within months, aha! I should not joke about such things.

V! Considering the little sh*t was only on the road for less than 2 weeks, I haven't got any decent pictures :( Yes, definitely need a mirror adjuster stalk thingy!

Thanks Moosegirl :)

P.s. So, had the clutch cable on the Polo fitted. Everything was fine and dandy. Drove like a dream, the clutch was so much lighter under my foot than before it snapped, beautiful.
Then after about 10 minutes of driving. The clutch is rock solid once again and gears were getting harder and harder to change. Now I can even engage in a gear :(
Has anyone got any ideas? Can't believe I've only had it just over 2 weeks :(

Cheers everyone,
B

I'm currently having some trouble with my clutch cable... Was it expensive to get it fitted?

Thanks man. I'm sure it will all get sorted soon! Just dreading what's going to go wrong next...Not having much luck these days.

I haven't been able to get any decent photos yet, as I haven't really had chance to properly drive it :( The only places it's been are my driveway and uni accommodation car park. I'm really hoping this will be rectified soon, then I'll get some photos :)

I got the cable for £28 and my flat mate knows a guy that used to be a mechanic for 4/5 years before coming to uni, so labour hasn't actually cost me anything yet. I said I'd buy him a pint or two.
I can't imagine if you took it to a garage to have it done it could cost much. It only took about 30 minutes to put in and adjust. Hope this kind of helps!

Update on the Polo:
As it's currently grounded in the car park and I can't change gears, the only real option is to get the RAC out. I'm not sure whether they'll attempt to fix it or just tow me to a garage? If they tow me to a garage, I need to get an assessment of what's wrong and call the garage I bought it from again and let them know the diagnosis (I make it sound like a bloomin' mental patient). If the problem is something major, I have to try and get the car from Huddersfield to the garage we bought it from in Wales for them to fix (absolute joke). If it's something minor-ish they've said they will just pay for the work to be done up here. I can absolutely guarantee it's going to be something major because of this fact, har har.
