Another niggle with my gti

Post by rover220 »

Having only recently bought the car from my brother I'm finding more and more niggles as time goes on.

Next one is the boot light, should it have one (mine doesn't apppear to have one)? Also the car doesn't realise the boot is open as I get no light on the dash (should there be one) and the car relocks itself after 30 secs even if the boot is open....

Any words of wisdom for sorting the latest niggle?

I didn't think I had one until I started the car with he boot open. It could have had the usual polo leak in the boot and damaged the sensor though.

The boot light may have gone into hiding
When I had my 6n2 SE and the Boyf had my gti, he realised my car had a light, but the gti didn't. He found it hanging behind the carpet, clipped it back into the little black plastic holder, and all was good

What's this usual polo water leak? My rear washer doesn't work so maybe that's leaking water?

Yeah there's an elbow on the piping for the washer jet that often comes off. Check your wheel well for water tell tale sign and then the washer fluid often leaks onto the boot sensor and stops it working

Wheel well is dry, where's this boot sensor then?

I believe it's on the locking mechanism. Have you got the ignition turned on? That's the only time that my light comes on when the boots open I believe. Also dry wheel well depends how long ago you used the washer

Yep, boot light never comes on. Looks like I've got a fun weekend coming up!

Thanks so far, this forum is much friendlier than another one that I shan't mention!

Seems the general consensus :p reason I moved over to here :p

Fairly sure that the washer jet is on the left hand side of the boot behind the c pillar I think.

Also seem to think its the boot sensor since it still locks when the boots open. Ita all an assembly with the handle I think. :)

I shall have a look, I would say it's down to the sensor too as it fits all the symptoms.

Thanks again

Before you panic about the boot washer leaking make sure you pop a tiny pin into the small hole where the fluid comes out of .I have to do this every month or so during the winter as it gets blocked by all the dirt & grit at the rear end of the car.

Sounds like your sensor is up the creak,if the sensor worked it would trigger the light on the dash and the boot interior bulb.I'd have a look there first at the weekend bud.

Ok cool, sounds like the lock needs to come apart to get at the sensor/ switch?

What you need is a boot lock microswitch, sounds like it's bust.....it's what tells your boot-light and dash that the boot is open :D
