6R Polo GTI hybrid WMI project
Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
The 323mm alcons trump you I think lol
Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
Yeah, I've seen those brakes. Even at 2 piece discs I somehow doubt the accuracy of their scales. Afterall I weighed mine on a set of scales accurate to 1 gram and my stock brakes seem to weigh 0.8kg less than theirs!
LOL
Still a lovely brake set-up for them.

Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
Absolutly loving the progress Hurdy. Keep it up man
I love coming on here seeing whats new today lol.
Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
Those are the Alcons fitted to teh APR Polo GTI, they're 4 pot brakes so there is some considerable weight savings over a 6 pot setup like Hurdy's.
To me, my principle is based on the theory of brakes to be as small as you can usably have them so I would go the 4 pot setup, but the 6 pots just look awesome:)

Quick 0-60mph video on a flat, damp uneven surface. Short shifted into 2nd and only used 5k rpm to avoid wheelspin on the damp surface. Video is only 6 seconds long and I stopwatched the video 0-60 as 5.6-5.7 seconds.

Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
Back to a more serious bit of kit.
I knew I wouldn't be able to resist for too long. Did some deeper investigation today about a hybrid turbo. New OEM turbo is £1100 +VAT and then looking like another £XXX for hybridising and then £XXX for custom software.
£XXX means basically I don't know how much yet.
With the rest of the planned hardware mods (intercooler, intake and water/meth) I'm looking at somewhere between 270bhp and 300bhp, but where between those figure is anyones guess
To put this into perspective 270bhp on a 1.4 is the equivalent of 385bhp on a 2.0 litre car and 300bhp on a 1.4 is the equivalent of 428bhp on a 2 litre car - without internals!!!!

looking good mate
Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
Going off those figures I think it's safe to say you are going to possess a real beastHurdy wrote:To put this into perspective 270bhp on a 1.4 is the equivalent of 385bhp on a 2.0 litre car and 300bhp on a 1.4 is the equivalent of 428bhp on a 2 litre car - without internals!!!!
Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
Stock turbo on the car is good for 270hp so a hybridised / custom turbo setup should net you some pretty nasty-good figures at which point you will be inserious need of R spec rubber and a proper LSD along with some hefty beefing up of the DSG clutch packs!

Before I do the hybrid turbo, I'm going to see what results I get with a proper intake and cooler.gavs wrote:Stock turbo on the car is good for 270hp so a hybridised / custom turbo setup should net you some pretty nasty-good figures at which point you will be inserious need of R spec rubber and a proper LSD along with some hefty beefing up of the DSG clutch packs!

Another little mod for today...
Wrapped the two front grey plastic sections with the carbon wrap to see what they look like. Not bad actually. Livens the front end up too.
