Relatively stumped at coming up with a price for this, was thinking around 2.6, optimistic or not ?
I’m selling because I don’t use it in the winter; I use my Lupo TDI which is awesome. I want a change for next summer so I’m going to do a mk2 golf. The Polo is now surplus.
It started out its life as a 1.0 E. I wanted a Polo GTI and I also wanted one in green, it was easier to reshell one than it was to get one painted. It’s still classed as a 1.0 E which does make it cheaper to tax, I declared it as a GTI on insurance only. I didn’t mention the six speed conversion as that would just confuse them.
I ran it as a standard GTI for a while but it was burning oil so in January of this year whilst it wasn’t getting used I bought a Lupo GTI and broke it for parts retaining what I needed to do the six speed conversion. Whilst this was being done I cleaned the entire engine bay and changed all the fluids throughout the car. It still remains clean now and runs sweetly. The radiator was also replaced at this time.
The advantages of the six speed is that the clutch is hydraulic so there’s never going to be any common pedalbox faults, the gearbox is an 02T instead of a 085 and the shifts are faster and crisper due to the cable shift.
Now, spec of the car.
The interior runs fully heated mk3 colour concept recaros, the door cards are from a TDI SE so they’re black but still retain the factory speaker holes, the interior door handles have been flocked as they were starting to peel a little. Everything internally is standard from the GTI. The alarm is fitted and works fine. The speakers have been upgraded and it’ll come with a standard gamma head unit. All windows, mirrors and RCL work as they should. Relay 19 has been changed for 99 so it has programmable wipers. I’ve also added the Lupo GTI pedal covers, like the Audi TT ones.
Exterior is pretty standard, it’s been lowered on JOM coilovers which are near enough new, adjust fine and have no corrosion on them. The wheels are recently painted Schmidt modernlines, centre caps are intact and they’re running T1R’s out back with about 1k miles on them and Yoko S drives up front which have been purchased for this sale. I have raised it up since the pictures and had the tracking/camber adjusted accordingly. The rear arches have been professionally rolled to accommodate the wheels. It also has genuine headlight protectors fitted. Lupo GTI aero wiper blades and arms have been fitted.
The brakes are standard Polo GTI out back and G60 up front running genuine Brembo discs and Pagid pads. These are about two months old. It stops incredibly well, fluid done in Jan. It also runs the Lupo GTI anti roll bar which is a direct swap for the Polo item but is thicker, therefore more rigid.
The engine is a Lupo GTI engine and box, this has 68k on it, I have the service history to back this up and the correct clocks are installed showing this mileage. It has the Lupo GTI engine cover which has been flocked black and is furry to the touch; this has been on since July and still looks as good as the day it was done. The airfilter is a K & N panel one.
I serviced the car this week, oil, coolant, filters and plugs as well as checking everything over so everything is fresh and good to go through the winter. I used genuine parts. I only use genuine parts.
The mot wasn’t out but it’s had a fresh one for this sale, the tax is till the end of December.
The paintwork is an eleven year old car, its clean and it shines up incredibly well, the car has been polished and sealed for winter with a few coats of Autoglym HD wax so all is good. If I had to be picky, there’s a couple of stone chips on the front (not a lot) and the rear bumper isn’t the greatest. There’s no rust on the car at all. MK5 polo’s had a galvanized body from the factory.
