My 60-registration Polo SEL is fitted with DRL's which (like most UK Polos) consist of the side lights (front and rear), the dipped beam headlights (at full intensity), the number plate lights and the instrument lights. In other words, everything but the Climatronic control panel and the radio.
I would like to have my car re-coded so that the front fog lights act as DRLs, preferably retaining the instrument lights but dispensing with the rest. I believe this is the standard set up on European market Highline models and possibly the UK-spec BlueMotion.
Do any forum members work in a VW dealership which would be willing to carry out this work?
I am based in South Yorkshire.

Re: Daytime Running Lights
I have a BM and the fog lights have two seperate bulbs one for DRL and one for FOG lights, so you may need to change the light assy.

Yeah, It's really weird how VW implimented DRL's on the new Polo.
When we specced the wife's car earlier this year, we paid about £40 for cornering lights. At the time I assumed that they would be in the extra outer lens space in the front foglamps, but no, they just use the regular fog lamp bulbs. It seems that the BM versions have the DRL's in the outer section only as they only have a single optic headlamp (i.e dipped and mainbeam through one reflector), unlike the higher speced models which have double optic headlamps. It seems when you have the double optic units, VW use the dipped beam as DRL's and you get front fogs with blanks in the outer sections, but if you have the single optic units, then you get twin lens front fogs with the outer lens being the DRL's.
I just don't know why as the DRL units obviously exist, why VW didn't just fit the BM fogs to other models in the range (I'm talking about SEL's and GTI's or model with fogs specced as an option). In my opinion they look much better. Would love to see if the BM units can be retro fitted easily. I knwo it would be 2 new fog light assemblies, but was wondering if there were quite large wiring changes etc ?
