Post by jonnymagnum »

has any body noticed a slight knocking noise when you put your polo in reverse on any lock.had my car in for service a couple of weeks ago mentioned it to them, they took o/s/f brake pads out and cleaned them ,but it started again day after.i have noticed on the odd time when i put full lock on, going forward there is a slight knocking noise.anyway booked it back in for the 2nd of december see what they say.

This seems to be quite a common problem. When I stick my car in reverse and touch the brakes, there's a 'clunk'. But this is supposedly normal? It's the first time i've ever heard a clunk from the brakes being categorized as normal

someone has had a similar noise in their car, not sure if it was South Africa or Norway. Either way, after many many attempts to fix the issue, said person got fed up and pulled the front brake disc off at the recommendation of a service tech. Lo and behold, destroyed front wheel bearing race. New hub carrier and bearing and no more knocking.

I'm not saying this is what is causing it, but it's a possibility. Knocks etc are so hard to diagnose it's not funny.

I made a thread on this a few months back. However, I booked the car in and they checked the brakes etc and took the car for a run. They couldn't find any problems with it so I assume there's nothing to worry about. :)

just got car back from vw wigan ,they told me the knocking noise is the front brake pads, they apparently don"t sit tight in the calipers and when there is a sudden movement on the brake disc this is the noise, never had this problem on any of my other cars,if theres a fault there they should fix it.also they have ordered me a new climatic control unit, mine has been flickering on and off a few times ,so they have hopefully ordered the new black and white one as i have the blue coloured climatic control .get some thing off them. they did wash=hoover my car thats something.

You won't get the new black and white one if it's a warranty claim, they will replace it with one of the same model. Have tried to go down this path and unless it's a superceeded part, you won't get the updated one:(

Maddening isn't it mate, i only took mine in for a drivers door adjustment and ended up with a new powersteering pump.
