metro gta horror!

Post by mikegti »

some metro gta wanted to play the other day, I was surprised how quick it was! it kept up with me up to 60, but I did hit the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd which didnt help... must practice my starts too..
the metro was lowered with a big bore exhaust, anyone know how quick these are meant to be?

its a shame the polo has to go past 4000 revs before it starts taking off!

er... better check your car (unless it was a heavily tuned gta):

I guess it is 88bhp per tonne... but you should have destroyed it

edit: i "appeared" to keep up with a leon 180bhp the other day, but in actual fact I got a better start and there was actually 2 clear car lengths in it at 70mph - which equates to a couple of seconds in 0-60mph speak.

that doesnt mean anything, ive seen Metro's with Garett turbos overtaking standard escort turbos.

Every car is individual to what mods have been done and overall quickness of the car from the factory (meaning cars that were made in the same factory can be slower or quicker than eachother)

For example my 1.3 Golf (Carb) used to keep up with 75% of older reg 1.6's (carbs)

just depends on the car

I thought GTAs could be 1.6 as well. Mind you, it probably depends on whether it was the box shaped, or slightly rounded box shape.

i think the 16v was the GTI metro.

anyhow, as i said - it would have to be quite heavily modded to keep up with a polo gti.

edit: seen that they did do a limited edition 16v GTa with 95PS, then with a cat it was 90PS. so that would be nippy!

Don't knock the little metros, I was looking at buying the GTa as a road rally competition car as one of the classes is limited to 1.4 16v.. (rallying is probably all it's good for now!). They're much quicker than you'd think though, so it could be possible for it to look as if it was living with the polo if it got a good start and as you said as you did mess up the changes... There definately was a 1.4 16v (look on autotrader) but is wasn't the Austin, it was a Rover ...

That said... wouldn't swap my polo for one

Metro GTa is a 1.4 8v but using a Metro GTi subframe it is possible to put the MGTF 1.8 16v VVC engine in with ease!!!

some days my polo is happy to play and drives nice and fast... other days it won't have any of it.. and find myself being tested by little micra's and 106's and stuff... very embarrassing...

I had a Rover GTA try overtake me on the slip road onto a dual carriageway a while back, decided to boot it as nothing else was on the road and the guy was wearing a baseball cap back to front!!!!

Was very suprised not to see it disappear in my review until well over 65mph!!!

Never under estimate small things ;)

Theres a 100/Metro in your area running a turbo'd K series engine (1.8 - fitted to Rover 200s and Lotus Elises). The engine in it used to belong to a friend of mine that had it in his purple mini (josh may know him/recognise the car (his name was Nes Drabble))

The metro GTa was a 1.4 8v carb engine. They are pretty nippy from what I remeber, being a metro they are light so thats an advantage. Remember there was an early and late verion, one was the austin using the old A-series and the later was Rover using a k-series.
The metro GTi was a 1.4 16v injection (K-series) engine thats used in caterhams, MGF's and Elise's. Pretty strong engine

my old mk2 metro would of owned you all. Vmax racing built 1293cc turbo running a constant 10psi boost.

Was around the 110 - 125bhp mark.
