To the left of the boot, kind of Infront of but above the seat belt mech there should be a rectangle black plastic holder
My light had originally fallen out of the holder and was dangling behind the carpet wall by its wires

bit of an update to this.

now have a working boot light after fitting a new latch assembly however i still dont get a warning light on the dash and the car will still relock itself if only the boot is opened..is this right.

also, my rear wash is supplying fluid to the wiper but there must be a blockage or leak in the motor itself as it pees everywhere even with the pipe properly connected.

Yep, need a boot latch as the rear wiper had been leaking killing the switch. New from vw are £15

About 5 mins work. You need a t20 torx screwdriver and an m8 spline bit

If the car is locking itself when you open the boot, its because the micro switch on the boot latch is damaged, mine was damaged when it was repainted and mine now locks after 30-60 seconds of opening the boot.

Took me ages to work out what the damaged switch did
