Agreed! 8)

As for your stiching dilemma, I'd just leave it plain, because if you get something little embroidered you'll probably end up getting bored of it.

Simples :)

DNE is not the way forwards.

I think a Lupo are cooler than a Polo. Controversial but I've had both & the GTI loop was so much better.

Probably why I created the hybrid.

In fairness the Lupo is newer, smaller and lighter so should be better than the Polo, not just in terms of spec but performance too.
The interior on the base model Lupo GTI's is awful, the leather kitted cars are good but the standard interior really is poor and un-german like.

I like the Lupo GTI's too but the styling on them is love or hate, very odd looking back end and not great from the side either. (possibly why it was axed for the fox)
The Polo GTI is a bit more neutral and IMO is better looking 8)

The lupo was axed because it had ran for eight years, that's a fantastic lifespan for a car these days.

The fox was never quoted as a replacement, I hate the fox but they're fun to drive. The up! is the future though.

Interior wise, the Polo was inferior, how can anyone say they prefer the one on the plastic feeling cloth seats over the pimpness of the standard Loop GTI seats ?

The Polo GTI seats IMO are the worst designed seats VW have done.

I liked the Polo for it's 'chuckaboutability' it didn't handle as well as the Loop but after a few upgrades it was good.

I prefered mine after it got the six speed box and hydro clutch though, I hated the poverty feel of the standard GTI.

I'm not a fan of the Polo or Lupo seats to be honest, both are pretty horrible and lack both comfort & support
God knows what VW were thinking with the "1" on the seats either, shocking to say the least but the leather options were very nice on the eye.

The six speed box in the later lupo's was a nice touch but it did have a negative effect on the performance and resulted in them being slower than the original 5 speeds.
Great cars though, just a shame VW were not slightly more adventurous with the performance but that's probably because they didn’t want them out performing the Golf GTI’s

Leather was the only option really.

The 02T box was far superior to the 085 in the Polo, there's not nearly as many horror stories and I've even had a Loop GTI on 147k on the original 5 speed box and it was fine, it accepted death.

Other than the very very minimal time difference the biggest advantage of the six speed was that you were always on the powerband if you were driving it properly.

As for performance, there's only the v6, anni's and R's in the golf mk4 category that could actually cause you some grief.

Even in standard form the Polo could have most of the mk4's to an extent.

Nice table there with the times, I have seen something similar before but not that detailed :) nice find

Yeah the 115bhp heavy 2.0ltr MK4 GTI's and standard 1.8T 150bhp GTI's didnt have any advantage over the Polo, it was only either the Anniversary Edition and the R32 that would upset the Loop's & Polo's as you mentioned. Always nice being the under dog though.
The 2.0ltr MK4 GTI's really are awful, terrible performance and most certainly dont warrant the "GTI" badge, that engine was obviously used in the MK3 Golf GTI's too.

Dont the 6 speed gearboxes have their problems too though?
