Buying a 9n But not sure which model to get HELPPP!

Hi new to the forum, Currently driving euroed Lupo,



saving up for a new car want a Polo 9n 1.4 16v 100BHP, I'm guessing they're pretty quick? compared to a 55BHP 1.0 Lupo, but like gold dust to get one with the right miles and for the right price, yet there is plenty of 1.4 Sport FSI's? in the right price range

Any differences between them? performance wise and equiptment wise? Many thanks

Unless ur wanting to convert to a 20vt engine (or don't want to go fast) get a diesel sport me gf got one 100hp to start with n mapped to 147 and is much better on fuel than petrol equivalent. Only thing that let's them down really is that diesel noise but you get used to it after a while.

I owned a 9n Sport fsi for a year and loved it, I've recently bought a 9n3 1.9 tdi which I love even more. The fuel economy is surprisingly similar both being injected but of course the tdi has a shedload more torque so it feels like it has way more power even though there's only 14bhp difference in it, and that's before you get it remapped..

Many sport spec 1.9 tdi's out there in good condition, the petrol 16vs are rare. Trim level is essentially the same.

If you're a petrolhead then you can pick up a tidy Fsi sport and map it to 100bhp, big spend for small gain but you get to stick with your chosen fuel and you get more choice

After reading your replies Just been on AutoTrader and looking at alot of 1.9 TDI's for a lot less than I expected! got an insurance quote and near enough the same price to insure as the 1.4 16v 100 bhp, One concern I hardely ever do any motorway driving, mostly urban stop start around town driving, will I still get decent MPG with a 1.9 TDI? Thanks

My gt pd130 (running 220) gets up to 40 mpg round town pretty easy struggle to get it below 35mpg. Motorway we are talking 50mpg+ (have seen 64 before who needs blue motion)

Does anybody know if the pd100 in the polo has a Diesel particulate filter? I've had a quick look around but can't seem to find much solid info on Euro compliance

If the engine has a DPF, you may clog it if you only ever drive the car in low speed urban situations.

Seeing as I've always wanted a dump valve if I've had a turbo on my car even though it will make next to no difference I will Deffo be putting one on my TDI if I get one

Seeing as diesels don't have a butterfly valve, how exactly do you plan on getting a dump valve to work?

11. Blow-off valves or BOV or similar

Since people insist upon asking about these devices, they need to be discussed ... The purpose of a "blow-off valve" or "diverter valve" on a gasoline engine is to give boost pressure someplace to go when the throttle plate is abruptly closed, to prevent operating the compressor in the "surge" regime. Since a diesel engine doesn't have a throttle plate, a gadget like this serves absolutely no purpose and has no business anywhere on a diesel engine. "But I like the cool noise ..." Too bad, this discussion is focused on things that WORK. Even if you manage to find some way to make such a device work, the noise of people "in the know" laughing at you because they realize that it has absolutely no place on your engine will drown out the noise that the device itself makes.

Installation: Impossible. Cannot be made to work even if you insist upon it.

Advantages: None.

Disadvantages: Won't work. People who actually know how a diesel engine works will laugh at you for even considering it. You are your own warranty.

Cost factor: Too much, all things considered.

Cautions specific to this modification: Won't accomplish anything.

Suggested modifications in parallel: Irrelevant.

"Bang for the Buck": One hundred percent total waste of time and money.

What if I want more? Do something that actually accomplishes something ...

And Ben, none of the 9n(3) TDIs have DPFs bar the 1.4 bluemotion.

I'm not reading the linked post but yes just realised TDI's don't blow off any pressure. It moves the exhaust gases around the turbo... my bad!
