Tuning 6R Polo GTI

Post by George H »

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but I have a 6R Polo GTI as my daily car. I fancy making it a bit faster, but I have absolutely no idea where to start. I've been thinking of starting with a re-map, and then getting a better exhaust system, but have no idea from there. I was considering Milltek for the exhaust, and Revo for the re-map, but if anyone has any recommendations they would be greatly appreciated :)

I want it to remain looking completely standard, but have quite a bit more power, and a nicer sound. Ideally with the 0-60 reduced to circa 5.5 seconds.

A few pics of my car too :)

Nice car you have there buddy, first of all your posting in the wrong section it's the two sections below you need to post in, but for power gains.

I would say fit an exhaust to your liking, fit a really good intake system/induction cold air feed and then have it mapped at either revo or even AMD where i had mine done....

After these have been done then your onto intercoolers and bigger downpipes, decat, weight reduction but you also need to stop so brakes pay a big role remember bud...

Hope this helps, but you will be moved once a moderator finds this then the other members with the same car can help more....

Thanks, I will have a look at AMD for re-maps too :)

Apologies for posting in the wrong section, I (wrongly) assumed this was a section for all Polo GTI related topics.

Ha, no worries matey. Yeah AMD are pretty good and a friendly service, but get all your bits bolted on then have a map....

I have to put all the bits on first? I never knew that. Is the map then customised to suit the new bits?

I was looking at this exhaust - http://www.millteksport.com/exhaust.pro ... iantid=340 but it says it requires a stage 2 map. Does that not mean I have to have it re-maped first, then put the exhaust on?

Can you recommend anyone for an intake system too?

Sorry for all the questions, I've never modified anything before :)

Cheers

Think Shark have managed to map the Fabia vRS's up to around 210bhp or so.

Might be worth poking around Briskoda, as it genereally seems a bit more active than here - they're the same car after all!

Yeah bolt all your bits on then have it remapped, it needs a stage 2 map to get the figures it says it can give, if you map it before then you won't get the figures as it can't get rid of the exhaust gases it's now producing if that makes sense?

That exhaust looks very good I would go for that defiantly, as for intake systems I will have a look for you....

Thanks :)

I like the look of that ITG intake, not too bad a price either.

I had a look at AMD, but the only problem is they're in Essex, I'm in Lancashire. Do they have places all around the country, or just one? Couldn't find anything on their website.

If I was to put the exhaust on first, and then have it re-mapped at a later date, would it not work properly then? Could it risk damaging the engine in any way?

Would it be better just to get it fit and re-mapped at the same time?

Won't harm your engine at all mate, your ecu is adaptive meaning it will know if something has changed and will adapt to your new exhaust.

So when you get it mapped your ecu will know for sure and they will program your fueling and air mix to suit your new exhaust.

But you need a decent induction kit aswell mate, found one yet?

They have a couple of sites around the place but any decent mapping area will do just research first.

The only induction kit I can find by googling is the ITG one previously posted. I'll probably go for that one, it looks ok to me.

I've found a few places round Preston way so I'll give them a ring and see what they can do :)
