please help :(

Post by rogo-24-84 »

hi people, im new to this site as ive just purchased my 6n2 gti today, already having trouble with it tho :( it wasnt until i got it all the way home that i noticed it doesnt lock/unlock with the key... the key arm and disarms the alarm but it doesnt locks the doorpins down so not locking the car... i can lock the car with the key but after its locked there is a humming buzzing noise coming from what sounds like in the boot and it lasts for 5 mins or until i unlock the door again.. also the drivers window switchs doesnt work, there doesnt seem to be any click on either of the buttons and doesnt feel like the passenger side one atall??

im lost as ive never had to much to do with these cars..... other than that the cars top!!! and drives lovely, even on the coilovers ;)

Mine did this when I disconnected my door loom, I believe it's because the central locking pump works on a vacuum. Sucking the locks down if you will, so you may have a leak in one of the door shuts or your boot pump may have occurred a loose connection. Check the boot and doors but it should be a cheap fix dw!

Could be as simple as your drivers side door loom not being properly connected. But be careful there hard to get apart and put back properly lol..!

Could be the pump has failed too? It lives in the boot.

If messing with the door doesn't sort it, it might be worth swapping out the pump. Not sure if a fault code scan will show anything up? (Can't hurt doing on a new car anyway, check there's nothing hiding.)

My mates car has similar problems. She has to lock the car with the key. I checked out the central locking pump, an there was major corrosion where the loom plugs in. Was bright blue. Hopefully tho for you itll be the simple fix of what craig suggested. Second hand CLPs are about £50ish so nothing toooo major.

And she also has a problem with her window switches! I've plugged my window switches into her car and they worked fine. So if you're sure everything is plugged in properly, it may just be a case of having to buy some new switches.

Rich has a CLP for sale for a lot cheaper than £50 !

He also has the door microswitches that control it.

TBH though, you've got a leaky pipe, it blows air to unlock, it sucks and creates a vaccum to unlock, just listen for a blowing noise and start ripping things out till you find it.

Door switches are a common problem, if you're talking about windows?

Pop your passenger window switch and see if that works in your drivers side, if that works then it's just a switch you need.

My central locking stopped working and all I could hear was a hissing noise, it turned out to be the rubber onthe petrol cap that was causing the problem, took an age to find the problem.
