Locking wheel nut key needed

Post by keeperjim »

Hi, as is says, anyone got a locking wheel nut key that they no longer need or want? For a 2000 Polo GTI with the standard alloys, it's the wee one with 3 pins in for the holes in the nut.

cheers,

Jim

I would have thought the combos would have been different otherwise it's about as secure as a normal nut?

The ones' I've got fitted are the 'tri-lock' ones, I understand what you mean about the security side of it, not much use if one key fits all, but surely they can't all be different, I can't see a manufacturer stopping their machine and changing the setting for every set of wheel nuts? I think they've been changed at some point, I found a 'Sports Radar' set box in the spare wheel well, but no sign of the key, grrrrr!

"Rotating washer helps prevent the lock head being gripped
Computer generated head - numerous combinations
Precision machined threads provide a secure O.E. fitment"

If you've got the box for them, does it have a code? or do you have a paper/card in your paperwork for them with a code on? If so, contact the manufacturer, their distributor, or a local dealer and they should be able to order you one.

Otherwise, get a new set, and contact a (good) tyre place or wheel specialist and see if they've got a tool for removal (I'd think that something with "floating" pins could be used.

Or, if all else fails, perhaps needle nose pliers inserted into the holes, and rotate with a mole wrench/spanner...?

Yeah I've still got the box, I'll have a look at it see if I can get a code off of it. Might have a bash at the pliers/vice-grip idea. Failing that I'll take a mold of the bolt and fabricate something at work.

cheers guys!

Got it sorted today, bought a key from eBay, it was pretty close, so I guttered the holes in the nut with a drill, and the key fitted on with a wee bit of help from the No.1 adjustment tool, and they all came off no problem, went far easier than I imagined it would!
