Shody mechanics job??

Took my 9n in for a MOT yesterday,,failed on n/s front rear wishbone bush,,supprise supprise,,,o/s cv boot and both drop links,,normally i would do these jobs myself (im no mechanic but im not bad) but due to a slipped disc i had to get the garage to do it,,first time ive had a garage work on a car of mine in 10 years.

Anyway,,i bought the parts minus the cv boot,,i got the cupra bushes (solid) from awasome gti,,1st call from the garage was they are the wrong ones,,no they are not,,..after they rang there supplyers they said that they was wrong,,they are correct after all..

ive picked the car up tonight and checked it all out,,drop links was fine,,not much to do wrong there,he did them for free,,so saved me the back ache,the bushes seem ok (i got him to do the other as i got in pairs) although one side doesnt look knocked in as far by about 5-6mm,,is this ok????? i knw they can be a pita to fit tho these bushes

the second thing was they said the cv joint is seized on and they had to put a sticky boot on,,i hate them,,but ok i said,,but when i checked it out the cv boot wasnt on properly it had come away from the hub end and grease was coming out,if i had not of checked click click in a couple of months,i took it back and has been corrected,,with 2 huge jubilee clips on it either end,,why oh why they havnt used the correct clamps..im not taking it back ill do it myself.

He also said he would knock the anti roll bar over,as its moved across,,as i dont have the uprated one on mine,he hasnt,and it was marked on the mot as advisory.

im just really peed of,,its a bit of a rant really thats all,,and now i feel better typing it out

ill not use them again,,sad really as they are so local and ive been having my mot done there for years,,they are not picky,so cant fault them for that.

Know the feeling mate, hate not being able to do a job myself. Luckily so far thats only ever involved a custom exhaust and re-mapping which i couldnt do, everything else I have done myself one way or another. It would really pee me off though if a garage did crap work on what I would say are simple jobs. Some of the things Ive struggled along with laying on the drive swearing etc but still done the job to a high standard. I wish I'd had a ramp to make life easier. Garages are trying to do it in the easiest quickest way possible to make the most money out of it, fair play you gotta make a living but it should at least be done to a decent level.

Thats what it is,they are told to do the jobs as quick as possible-ive met the owner and you can tell he like the cars in then out,,once my back is sorted i can get back on it.,,im going to invest a few more helper tools as to take the strain of it a little,,one is crawler,,and some higher stands,,all my work is done in a car park as i live in flats,,im lucky in that the neighbours are ok with it,.a garage would go down nicely

Thing is though the owner knows how keen I am as every year if there is anything on a MOT he knows I take it away,so id of thought he would of told the lad to make sure its done,,I dont envy the next person that goes in..it just puts you of going to another garage,,not a good start for me as ive had 10 years of not garage fees,1st time and this happens,,ahh well crack open a beer and forget about it,you live and learn

Yes I know how you feel, I had a VAG specialist replace the crappy voided bushes with Cupra ones - one was put in in reverse! I complained, they said it would be okay, in the end I bought another new bush (so that they could destroy the previous one to save time) and PAID them to do it right! Got my VW dealer to replace the front bearings on my B5 Passat, a couple of months later I discovered that the brake wear wiring was chopped and hidden with black tape back up the cable - I reckon that the VW place must have dropped the hub and sheared the wiring, I repaired it - too late to complain. At next MOT I got an advisors for a cracked front brake flexi - same side that I thought they dropped the hub - probably same reason as the sheared wiring, next Mot I got an advisory for a cracked CV gaitor on that same side - maybe same reason again!

Idealy, these Cupra bushes should be flush with the rear of the aluminium housing (console), with one of mine being reversed, the rear end of the TCA was rubbing against the "wrong" end of the new bush and making a noise.
