Polo GTI 6N2 - gassy smell

Post by polodriver »

Hi all

Have a 6N2 GTI, 70k miles, and has recently developed a sulphur-tinged gassy smell on start-up and appearing intermittently during driving. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem? Suspect cat going or air-conditioning unit needing rehashing.

Any help gratefully received!

Is it more noticeable when it comes to a stop? Does it smell like your washer fluid (lift up the cap and have a smell)?

Crankcase breather perished/disconnected?

That would be noticeable at a stop too. . .

Hi chaps

Definitely smells on start-up, and tends to disappear a bit when moving. Stopping again brings it back. Can't smell anything out the back when it's idling, so not cat?

Might get it MoT'd next weekend, so am going to ask for an investigation... Really smells of sulphur/rotten eggs!

It's the cat.

Get the emissions done and find out.
