Ben's Civic EP3 CTR - 2012 Update!
Great update Ben. Glad you've changed the rear lights also, dislike the newer "lexusy" ones.
Need to know what it feels like to have a v-tec "kick in"!
Maybe I'll v-tec the golf...?!

Yeah the Lexus style lights had to go, really didnt suit it at all. Not sure what Honda were thinking putting them on there, they look awful.
The VTEC kick is very addictive mate, you should deffo drop a K20 in the Golf MK1
Next for me is a Piper Manifold with Sports CAT then its time for the RBC Inlet manifold and K-PRO
How's the golf coming along Chris?

Glad you liked the Polo, it was a great car for 3 years but I fancied a change eventually, really pleased it went to a good home though.
Yeah I opted for a 2005 (54 plate) EP3 Civic Type R in the end as a replacement for the GTI, the only other options were a Seat Ibiza Cupra or an Audi S3 (8L).
I was also tempted by the old EK9 Civic Type R but those things are a bit mental and not really practical for day to day driving.
They are great cars though the EP3's, handle pretty well standard, amazing engine & gearbox, decent looks and they are not too bad on fuel either.
Downside is they are very unrefined so it’s quite tiring on long journeys and the paint is awful, its wafer thin so it chips for nothing unfortunately.
I'll try and get you boys some video's in the next few weeks, I’m after a Go Pro but I’m trying to haggle a good price
Manifold is being fitted on the 20th, just ordered a full set of Yokohoma Prada Spec 2's as well so it’s ready for the summer
It sounds brutal already so it’s going to be ear destroying once the Piper manifold is on there

EP3 is probably slighly more practical in the winter months though but I would much rather be in a S2000 in the summer months, hood down listening to 9000RPM
Re: Ben's Civic EP3 CTR - 2012 Update!
Out of those choices I woulda gone for the S3
but like you mentioned in previous post it's the running cost that's the issue
The lad I bought my gti off went on to an S3 (not sure which model) it was passed down from his brother just like the gti.
Bet your excited for the manifold to be on
Hurry up with the haggling on the GoPro cam!!

Re: Ben's Civic EP3 CTR - 2012 Update!
Yeah I do really like the S3's and still do both old & new, very well equipped, great looks, stunning interior etc.
I wanted something basic next though because the Polo was amazing in terms of gadgets with heated leather seats, climate control, electric everything basically but I rarely used any of the gadgets so I just wanted something basic that was fast and reliable. The S3's are a bit of a lump too, great cars but very heavy and not the best in the corners either, Civic Type R is 300KG's lighter with far superior handling so it was an easy choice for me in the end, not going to say the Type R is a far better car but in terms of performance its pound for pound still the best hot hatch available, punches well above its weight.
Yeah i'm buzzing about the manifold now
I want to get it dyno'd after its fitted to see what she's running, probably be somewhere between 215-222bhp
Go Pro FTW! After seeing Matt's vids I really want one now but dont want to pay retail

Yeh I agree with you there mate all German cars factor in everything so therefore really heavy!
I can imagine the civics so fun cos like you said its rather simple and they've concentrated on the engine
How much you lookin at payin for a dunno run? Surely it'll be worth doing after you've got your other bits on it?
Matts GoPro video looks awesome I think everyone now wants 1!
How much is retail price what you've looked at?

Re: Ben's Civic EP3 CTR - 2012 Update!
Yeah I agree mate, German cars basically try to accommodate everything and there is nothing wrong with that because their cars are top quality.
The problem is all those Gizmo's add weight and kill the performance, there is also a chain of command with VAG cars which is annoying where everything fits into a certain price range therefore can’t be better than its higher priced alternative. It would be nice to see the Germans go crazy for once and forget about creature comforts, they did it with the Polo G40 and the old Corrado's but you just don’t see it these days.
The Japanese on the other hand tend focus solely on performance and everything else is secondary, bar maybe Lexus who are branded "The Japanese Mercedes"
That's what I like about the Civic, the whole set up is just pure performance, its noisy, unrefined, not very good on fuel and the build quality is questionable but it’s very good at putting a smile on your face. They should have called it the Honda Ronseal because it does exactly what it says on the tin lol
Dyno run will probably be about £30 mate with a print out, but there are a few companies quite local to me which is good.
I'll be hoping for about 220bhp and then after that it’s a Hondata K Pro ECU, RBC Inlet Manifold & Mapping
hopefully get it around 240-245bhp
Yeah Go Pro is a cracking piece of kit, really impressed with the quality and its perfect for getting good car video's.
Retail is £250 mate so I’ll be hoping to do a bit of wheeling & dealing and get one for 200 sheets

Re: Ben's Civic EP3 CTR - 2012 Update!
Yeh it would be good if they done a basic VW for just driving
You should sticker your civic up and call it ronseal then lol would be funny
I honestly thought a dyno run woulda been more than that! Spose it depends where you go.
I'm thinking bout gettin mine dyno'd but mite aswell wait untill ive sorted my manifold and exhaust and a remap.
My exhaust is gonna have to be soon tho cos I got the car checked over 2day ready for the long trip 2moro and my centre section is on its way out so mite just get a cat back system for the min
