Are You Using Oil?
Re: Using Oil!
Interesting last few posts here, I won't hold my breath on a recall though, much that I hope VW will do this to gain customer respect. I did not buy a £20k car and expect these kind of problems. To be fair though, maybe they have been stalling for time while they try and get to the source of the problem.

Hi everybody and hi Gav, glad to see you also here...
I'm writing from Italy, this is our main forum that speaks about GTI's problems: http://www.polovw.it/foro/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12913
Very bad situation this 1.4TSI
BTW, I'm lucky not having oil consumption problems on my GTI, but I'm really worried about the future and I'm invoking a global recall for all the GTI, faulty or not...
In Italy we have a lot of examples of GTIs, but also Ibiza, that started to eat oil after 10.000 or 20.000Kms, so nobody could feel safe with this engine....
About the new piston rings code available from January 10th, I guess they are combined also with new pistons (someone says they are forged instead of stamped, but are just voices): for now there is not a feedback about them...
Look at this video, may be you already know it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR7sQsCalm4
What we jointly have to ask to VW, worldwide, is a global recall, that involves all the 1.4TSI faulty or not: when a concrete solution will be found, they must fix all the cars sold. I don't want to have a car that, when warranty will be expired, will need a lot of money to be spent!
Bye,
Max

Re: Using Oil!
Anyone have any more news on this? Any Techs in VW that anyone knows of?
Using Oil!
Have spoken to the one I deal with about a supposed piston related fix to which I got a smile and a reply of "something like that" and that was it!
Re: Using Oil!
My car has engine code CAVE. Can anyone tell me if its likely that this already has the planned fixes or have there been more revisions since then?

Re: Using Oil!
I also have the same engine code Deako and i think the next engine code is already in the works....CHTE. I think i heard this from Gavs. Supposed to be the one that has the problems all sorted out lets see if it is the case.
Re: Using Oil!
Yes, CHTE engine is already available on ETKA from may 2012...
We don't know exactly which differences it will have from CAVE...
Could be only the same current engine, but Euro6 ready
Look at this pic: is taken from a replaced engine on an Ibiza Cupra: the original engine ate 1liter every 1.000Km, the replaced one 1liter every 1.500Km and the picture was taken when the second engine was opened... The car staied in the workshop for more than two months...
This head engine did only 3.500Km, completely encrousted...!!!

Re: Using Oil!
Further oil update on mine:
Had the piston rings replaced at 10k, asked to keep an eye on the oil over the next few months, so it hadn't used much until I checked it this weekend after a long ish 300 miles, and low and behold I had to add 700ml to it to get it back up to the maximum line again, not happy, so in total in around 850 miles I've used 1.1ltres of oil, seems pretty much worse than it was before!
So the cars booked in for early April for VW to have a look at it, but I will be insisting they replace the engine

Re: Using Oil!
Been lucky so far with my car. Done 900 miles and i havent had to top it up, but then i havent checked the oil level either. I will be doing it this weekend.

Another crazy experience come out today from an Italian GTI's owner.

Re: GTI - Oil consumption
Post by Blackarrow '48 minutes ago
After more than 1 year, now I think I can write some objective consideration.
My GTI has always had an oil consumption of about 1 liter every 1200 km.
After several checks, weighing, etc. .. is about 6000 km I replaced the engine.
I was hoping to go well, but it did not happen. Currently, consumption and are almost identical at an altitude of 18,000 km.
I'm sorry if you have a new engine or replaced, from what I read and from my own experience, there is no current solution and not even know what to do. Shameful!
In part goes down, surely there are some engines that have an acceptable oil consumption or limit dell'accettabile. Then subrentrano driving conditions, I noticed that when using city and short distances, consumption remains high. With the new engine, after the first 1200 km (and a topping of 1kg!), I then traveled about 3800 km before needing to add another kg of oil. Kilometers traveled mostly on the motorway and long journeys.
Then definitely the type of use influence consumption. Another strange thing already said, is that you can travel hundreds of miles without the level drops a lot, then suddenly ounces of oil are burned in just about anything.
The fact is that we have a car that goes to the mixture and that the parent is not able to solve this malfunction.
My heart breaks, because prestazionalmente the engine is a masterpiece, as well as the Dsg.
Among all the gallons of oil made at my expense, mileage and time lost to checks and inspections and the car stopped about 10 days (without replacement vehicle) there is something to be really disappointed and angry!
Now starts the usual rigmarole of checking the consumption, then weighing, etc. .. but to what end? To change again the engine??

Maximum? You mean the top of the oilindicator?Stugolf1 wrote:Further oil update on mine:

Never go higher then half way. Why? Everything more then halfway will be trown out / used up by the engine almost immediately.
Just top it up to half or just under that. Not higher!
Re: Using Oil!
Don't worry mate, I check it upto just over half way on the dipstick grating every 2 weeks, and its still used a lot of oil in the last few hundred miles with the odd puff of smoke that's just appeared
Re: Using Oil!
Mmmm - that is a new one on me to only top it up halfway up the hatching marks. Admittedly though the oil drops quite quickly from maximum, but I would feel cheated if my dealer were to do this.Vissa wrote:Maximum? You mean the top of the oilindicator?Stugolf1 wrote:Further oil update on mine:

Re: Using Oil!
This is the answer that VW International gave me about my concernings on my 1.4 TSI expressed on FB.
I suggest everybody who have oil consumption problem to write at the email adress below, we are doing the same in Italy...
Hello Max, in this case we recommend to get in touch with Volkswagen headquarter's customer service via [email protected] by stating your name and details as well as your vehicle identification number and your request. The customer service department is where all issues are collected and solved. We wish you all the best.
Here the first result of another user: Wolfsburg
I also received an answer by email after my segnalation.
They will probably adress the issue to your local customer service, but the ticket will be opened directly by the headquarter: this is something more than nothing...
