6N2 GTI Cold Air Induction Kit

Post by Polo Dan »

Hi all, I've been reading the forum for some time now and usually get the answers I need however this one's proving a little bit more tricky so time to pop my forum cherry and join up...
I want to fit a cold air induction kit to my gti and fancy this one:
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 9883_n.jpg
I've had a look through what's available at http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/list/ind ... /polo.html but can't find this one there. I think it's a DMC jobbie but none of the gti ones have the chunky silver feeder pipe

So, does anyone know where I can get a decent cold air feed that has the solid silver pipe (not the flexible black type)?
Also, should I route it to the wheel arch or the front grille?
(tbh, the set up in the photo would suit me great if anyone knows exactly what it is or if it'll be suitable for the gti)

I want to keep as much of the engine cover as possible too.

Thanks to anyone that can help give some advice on this. Also not sure if I've added the photo in the correct way - lets hope it doesn't just show a poxy web address

Welcome to the forum mate, your best buying a k&n direct cold air feed kit. There pretty exspensive but give much better gains and there directed behind your foglight so give really good gains and the kit comes with instructions to keep your top engine cover with a small cut out. Here's mine with out the cover.

Ah man your bay looks clean! I like the idea and look of your K&N set up, can you advise me on any part numbers and a stockist for getting the kit you have? The filter should be pretty straight forward but I've had trouble finding this kind of tubing. Cheers for the advice mate :D

The K&N Typhoon is supplied as a complete kit and comes with all the neccesary air feeds and piping.
It will be exactly the same as Craigs above

Yeah eBay or venom Motorsport will stock them mate, and as said it cones with everything needed all the piping and clips and clamps. Nice and simple to instal as well... Can come in silver or a red finish. Or you could paint whatever color you wanted before fitting.

I upgraded my jubilee clips to boost clamps from mikalor clamps. As the jubilee clips they supply are ok but I wanted better ones.

Glad to help.

Cheers guys, I've ordered one now :) I'll post some before and after photos if someone would tell me how to do so directly instead of a website link popping up?!

Thanks :)

Yeah do that buddy, we all like photos. If you use a site called photobucket and sign up for free, dead easy then. Upload your pictures to your online album and then click on it, the code you need is the IMG Code. Copy and paste that into the thread on uk polo and there ya go.....

And wile we're playing photobuckets, I ordered some headlight protectors, they look like this:

I'll start a build thread once I've got these bits fitted and get some more photos up.

Next I'll be looking into a new manifold and exhaust system, off topic so I'll start a new thread for that

Here's what it looked like before:

And here's what it looks like fitted:

I had to trim the engine cover so it would go back on and the VW badge was a bit manky so I took that off and am looking for a new one. :)
The car goes a bit quicker now and sounds pretty nice in the higher rev range.
Thanks for the advice gang and cheers for uploading the photos Trotta :D

Looking good mate, by far the best kit available and will give you actual gains. Your ecu is adaptive so will learn you have more air coming in etc. So will get quicker over time..... Looks good though mate.

Nice work Dan :) Typhoon looks awesome fitted!
I would probably get rid of the half engine cover now mate, I think they look a bit better without them when your running a long feed typhoon, its all personal choice though.

I'm looking at possibly getting a cover from a 1.0L or 1.4L as they look to be smaller and they would have a nice moulded edge all the way round (rather than the cut edge I've got on mine) I'm not sure about having no cover at all though but I might give it a whirl if the 1.0L cover looks poop :)

Where did you order these from?! I've spent ages and ages trying to find the bits I want and just drawn a blank everwhere! Seems you have a knack or luck in finding them! Lol!
