6R Polo GTI hybrid WMI project
Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
Unfortunately not. It has to be mapped into the mechatronics unit like you'd remap the engine.
Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
1st (poor) attempt at Santa Pod resulted in 2 runs with the best of the two being [email protected]. Poor 60ft which was over 0.2 slower than I can get on a normal tarmac surface and the DSG did it's thing to screw up the rest of the run by kicking back down from 4th to 3rd as I'd geared up early from 3rd to stop wheelspin! Still the fastest 1.4TSI Polo GTI in the UK at the moment on the leaderboard. I also did this with a full interior, spare tyre in and 2/3rds of a tank of juice. So not bad, but should really be around 13.4 with a good launch and not kicking back down.
A DSG remap and a proper hybrid map can't come soon enough IMHO.

Can you advice on brakes for std polo? — want something yellow and not so expensive to fit my new r16s
Obviously with better performance as well but that shouldnt be hard considering that there are old "drum" brakes on the back.
(i am complete noob at modding and you seem to be one of the few who done the brakes mode =)

Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
If you have a standard car that's not particularly a rocket ship, why would you bother with upgraded brakes? The standard brakes would more than suffice for driving on the roads.Lieto wrote:Can you advice on brakes for std polo? — want something yellow and not so expensive to fit my new r16s

Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
just now i realized that bigger brakes doesnt make your car stop faster
That kinda kills the point.. , prolly will be too expensive to change brakes purely from aestetical point of view..

Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
physics? Any brakes can lock the wheel and let abs kick in, even the most shty ones.
From this point your wheels is the main deciding factor as to how fast you will stop.
Big racing brakes allow you to brake longer, will dissipate heat better and serve you longer but they wont stop your car much faster (if faster at all).
To clarify: if you take stock new 1.2 tsi polo and put a huge brakes on it it wont stop any faster then std version (70 to 0 emergency stop)
[edit] yup, sorry

If you want to discuss brakes could you please open up a separate thread and I'll be glad to add my thoughts on the subject. Ta

Hi Hurdy
Can you tell me a little more about the Bilstein's? I like them a lot.
Is it the PSS09's or PSS10's you got - the are references to both of them in the thread?
How have you got them set up for normal driving?
Cheers

Re: 6R Polo GTI stage 2 project
The Bilstein B16's for the Polo only come as PSS09's. I actually ordered PSS10's and when PSS09's fell through the post I was a little taken aback. After phoning the company I bought them from they said there are only pss09's for the 6R. I have them set on a softer setting for the road and they are still a little firmer than stock as I have them fully lowered at the back. Initially they were 20mm higher and were as good as stock on the softer setting for comfort, but didn't get as unsettled or crashy as the OEM set-up.

Here's a link to Bilsteins catalogue list for the 6R Polo.
