I understand what you are saying Vissa, I agree it is too much. Going to VW they will simply point at the manual saying that it can use 1Litre of oil every 2000 km and even more on the run in period.Vissa wrote:1l per 2000km is way to much, at 1l per 5000km I would be not worrying that much but still that's to much.
VW states 1l per 1000km, that's offcourse absurd. If the engine is build correctly oil consumption should be at minimum, like 10.000km and still no drup of oil used. But the engines aren't that greatly engineered.
The more oil it consumes, the sooner problems will start to appear. The oil clogs up everything at some point. So if you use up 1l under 5000km I should deff go complain @ VW.
Are You Using Oil?

In Italy other two cases where the engine was replaced, but the problem NOT solved...

Re: Using Oil!
Hm, mine did +- 5000km with a liter oil.
Now VW offered me a winterpackage some months ago, with a liter oil in the bag. Cheaper Oil, same specs. But the car is using it up like gasoline. 500ml per 1000km.
Changing my oil to 0W40 Mobil1 New Life soon, curious what the oil consumption will be with some thicker oil!

Re: Using Oil!
Aaargh!
Oil usage after the Piston Rings/Oil Scrappers still terrible.
I went back to the garage, started another 600 mile test and.......
.....the oil light came on after 581miles!!!! 1.5L in 581 miles. This has to be some kind of record!
Waiting on VW for a response (as usual).

Re: Using Oil!
Oh no, that is very bad. I have put in about 0.4/litre in 600 miles, still sometimes see an oil haze out the exhaust but 1.5 litres!bullwinkle wrote:Aaargh!

What is the point I ask of these continual oil tests when VW know there is a problem.
Re: Using Oil!
is their anyone left whos rebuild has cured the problem ?
Re: Using Oil!
How can be possible: Autobild interviewed VAG group and they said the problem is distribution chain...
http://www.seatfansclub.com/2012/04/vag ... el-14.html
Transation with Google from Spanish:
In an interview conducted by technicians from VAG to Autobild have recognized the problems that have been causing the 1.4 TSi engine affecting 2 million cars in the group. This problem no longer affects newer cars with this engine as they have already taken steps to correct this problem blamed on a supplier.
The problem was discovered in the engine when the driver when starting from cold and listened to too much noise last few seconds was detected a significant increase in oil pressure, after which the noise disappeared. The origin of this noise was premature wear of the transmission chain with lower tolerances which are originally designed.
If the chain is damaged it can be detected. So VW said it would be important for drivers of these engines, which do not affect everyone, they saw an unusual warming of the engine or rattling noises strange to go to the dealer.
Even with all these revisions will call VW engines. However this topic is giving a lot of talk in Germany because it is not the first time VW has problems with strings, as in other TSi (1.2, 1.8 and 2.0) also have problems but due to other reasons.

Re: Using Oil!
Just checked my oil level again (another top up required). 0.6/litre approx top up in 600 miles. So on that clearly 1/litre per 1000 miles. Slightly above VW tolerance but new rings still only 2,600 miles in. Won't go back just yet.
