Re-furbed split rim bbs 15's

Post by sandshoes09 »

So, FINALLY!! I have got round to refurbing my bbs 15's and boy im well chuffed with the results    big up to bstard child for his diy guide, spot on

Bit of background first - Having seen some gti's on line and a couple where I work I soon realised my alloys were in real bad condition  I dunno what the previous owner did but I think it was a botched attempt at a refurb and then paint to hide the sin's. there was no laquer on the rims (??) and some bad corrosion around the studs which caused the very last 2 studs on the last wheel to shear  got them drilled eventually at a mates garage and finally split :P

After polishing the rims they didnt seem to shine as much as on bstard childs diy guide, i think this is down to not sanding in both directions, still a million times better than before though!

Unfortunately i was too enthusiastic and didnt take any before shots but here are a few during progress....

rims after nitromors (kerbing took some sanding!!)

before and after ps. this is a spare i bought, way way better condition than mine were

I have my other 2 centres currently at the wheel specialist and need to get cracking on the last 2 rims but the weather just now is against me, cant wait to get some new tyres and get them on the car, crappy fox alloys dont do much for her!

Wheels do look great dude.I had mine fully refurbished lastyear sometime.

You'll be so impressed with how much of a difference they make to the overall look of the car, will bring it back to life thats for sure.I would recommend repainting the brake calipers whilst the wheels are off. That will seal the deal,no get polishing.

Cheers pal!

Yeah I have bought some spray paint to do the calipers as i have noticed they are a bit dull looking. So many things i want to do, some more important than others but time and money are major factors.

Cheers guys :D

Joe, I took the centres to The Wheel Specialist in Cwmbran just outside Cardiff. £30 each, done the rims myself.
