Yes but they haven't actually cost you £6k because of the oil issue. It would have depriciated at least £4k without it. If you haven't actually had the car and it has only been sat in a dealer awaiting being fixed for a year, then yes I'd agree you should get 100% of your money back. If you have used it inbetween trips to the dealer, then you should pay the depriciation for the amount you've used it.
I don't want to get rid of the car, I have expressed that too them but seeing as they can't fix my car offering me £1,000 under the part ex value on my car is below the belt, especially when I offered to swap it for a working car of equal value

I had a reply from the dealer supplying my car (being delivered june) - they said there are no issues with the GTI Tsi engines that they are aware of.
I therefore rang VW HQ this afternoon as i wanted to check my car had the new improved engine mentioned by several people on here and other places.
VW said they knew nothing about it. I questioned this, so they put me on hold and came back a few minutes later. They said they had asked about the office and allegedly checked their internal systems and were not aware of one single problem of TSI GTI Engines burning oil, piston ring failures or anything related.

Interesting?

Am i surprised?

I do think its wrong VW openly lie to customers though.

I'm not concerned about mine though .... I was interested to see if they would confirm the new engine upgrade but not going to lose any sleep over it.

Yes - sadly it is the stock answer, when I first mentioned the problem to my dealer it is met with raised eyebrows and a 'first we have heard of it' kind of response.

After a while I feel almost like a nuisance to them when they turn round as say it is all within tolerance. You can bet your bottom dollar that when the car is out of warranty, then they may magically admit their is a fault and offer to fix it at great expense.

I wouldn't be surprised by this at all. My local dealer keeps calling me up to ask if I want to trade my 9N3 GTi in for a 6R GTi. Each time I say no because of this oil consumption issue and each time the sales guys pretend to not know a thing about it. Fair enough once, but it's happened about 4 times with the same salesman, and their service guys have quietly told me that they are getting some back because of it. Unbelievable.

They'd probably tell you that it could break the sound barrier as well if they thought that it would help them shift one.

Thats give me a bit of hope

I spoke to VW Customer Care yesterday and had a go because they don't actually do anything? They won't get involved with financial issues or issues with the dealers and all theey can inform me at the moment is "no repair is available"

My car is now booked in to my local dealer for 2 weeks time. Used 1 litre in 800 miles :x

And they really pissed me off trying to make me pay for a courtesy car. Never had to do that with any car company before.

I can't believe how some of you guys are being messed around.......and VW customer care should hang their heads in shame for clearly lying about there being no oil issues with some GTI's.

My experience is, after the piston ring upgrade failure and threatening customer care with contacting a well known BBC consumer prog to highlight the issue, they became my best friend. (Funny that!!) I got calls from a manager weekly to check progress and guide the dealership and push them at times. Result was a new engine and now much better consumption figures. I also got a small compensation package for the inconvenience. Go figure.

From my perspective being told there is no issue will help me if the worst does happen. They won't have much of a leg to stand on given i checked specifically and will be accepting the car on the basis this issue doesn't exist.
Will also note on the paperwork on handover i was told this problem is not real :)
