Tyre wear

Hi, just had my front tyres replaced after a puncture, the guy working at the tyre place said they'd of needed changing soon anyway. Now I'm sure that tyres (Continental EcoContact EPs) shouldn't be that close to needing to be changed after 12,000miles. Has anyone else had this problem, is the tyre compound particularly soft or something? Ok I have to admit they have suffered a bit but no more than tyres in my previous cars - which I'm sure have lasted longer.

Continental are known to wear quickly.

Other tyres are better for lasting longer, although contis do grip very well.

I borrowed a 9n 1.2 Courtesy car with Conti's on, on every bend the front tyres squealed like a Pig

Even when I genuinely wasn't going that fast!

Don't forget though...

A standard 1.2 has standard suspension.. so pretty much every tyre will make noises

Ive just had my bridgestones replaced at 14500 miles. They are 205/45/16 though on sports suspension.

My bridgestones are still going at 16k miles. I reckon they'll make it till about 18k.

Yeah I suspected it might be due to soft compound on the tyres.

My first Polo (6N 2000) had Firestone Crap tires and lasted only 6000 miles with hard cornering.

The Goodyears that I have now are a lot better and can have loads more of punishing.
