Hello from Australia , I'm building a 1.8t 6n2
hi folks like to introduce myself, I live in Australia and served my apprenticeship in Scotland with Audi and Vw, have over 22 yrs experience and still work on the things,. I hope I can be of some use in your tech section. anyway Ive started to build a 1.8t 6n2,. I see you guys are still at it and have seen a couple built over there. We have tons of new dubs over here but not many from this era, so couldn't help myself do a build. I'll post some pics up soon. So far the 16v engine is out as it was gone and I'm sourcing all my parts, I have an AGU engine from a mk4 golf and loom. Gearbox mounts specially fabricated on their way along with a cable shift diesel box, I'll be hpc coating loads of stuff. I've got a set of momo sets from an Alfa 156 and they are going to look tops in the polo. I tune software too but this one will be live tuned n the rollers when it's ready that's also been arranged.
Sorry for being brief but hope to post some pics soon for your entertainment .
Thanks for having me

Ok guys sorry for the delay , been having a hectic couple of weeks, i run my own VW /Audi and Porsche service, diagnostic and reapir business, so been hard to get on here. Ok here is a couple fo my pics to get started. Ill recap im in the process of doing this huge mod, with some other goodies

This is her in standard form.

Another std pic

You get the idea

MIll Extracted, now to get the firewall all lagged for the hot hairdryer thats going to sitting next to it. I have an AGU motor, Diesel Gearbox, custom made light flywheel, Stage one clutch, Wiring loom to run my flashed AGU A3 ECU. All OEM , as i know the looms pretty well after 25 yrs with them,so thought it would be cool to fettle them in. I have custom made engine and gearbox brackets to mount the AGU. Loads of engine stuff to go happen too, but baby steps for now. Already teed up my driveshaft guy to make my custom shafts.
Anyway got these for something different

Momo seats from an Alfa 156, they sit in pretty nicely.

Momo for the win.
Hope you like , ill try and update as i can
Cheers for looking, im ex Scotland over here and trying to keep the thing alive

Be keeping an eye on this. Nice project mate
Re: Hello from Australia , I'm building a 1.8t 6n2
Hi there i have custom mounts but my drivers side one isnt so good, it was made for an 058 block and mines of course is an 06a block, water pump is in a different possi. Not to worry i bought a 9N3 Gti alloy bracket which is a straight fit, and ive ordered a chassis mount to match. Ill refit engine to test fit and if i have to shave the bracket no worries even if i have to copy the shaved one for a stronger one. The gearbox mount is really good fit. Shafts will be custom for sure , i have a joint over here keen to get at it when the time comes, which is miles away. Ive now got myself a JBS04 Turbo which will be the cats pygamas. Big injetors, VR6 fuel pump and still toying with using Standard MAF , not overly convinced i need a bigger one yet. Still pondering what intercooler to have im open for suggestions!!! I just got the Cable to Hyd kit from the UK for the diesel cable shift box. Now next thing is to gut the firewall, clean it to the max and then insulate the brake lines and firewall. Still pondering running the main harness through the chassis too.Mart!n-GTI-DK wrote:What mounts and axles will you be using ?

Got myself a JBS04 now and will be running this with a VR6 fuel pump, bigger injectors and possibly bigger maf, not sure ill need that yet. i have the engine on the stand and was nearly going to take the head off and that would tempt me to go forgies but no must stop there. Maybe later
Anyway ive just got myself a set of Porsche D90s.
Ill post the pics once in my possesion, next to source a set of hubcentric adapters, currently looking at Racelands gear but not sure if they post out of US. Emailed them so time will tell. Hunting for an intercooler that will do the job, im keeping the AGU manifold so the hot and cold side wil exit on the same side of the cooler so trawling the net looking for the right candidate. Be making a start to the firewall soon, itll be a test, must lag it well as im sure the temps will be pretty hot there
Anyway ill keep you posted
Cheers

Hi guys been a while, slow progress but progress it is. Ive ditched the Alfa Seats Idea and now have a set of Mk4 GTi Recaros. Got the 1.8T loom in the engine bay and all good, will be wiring splicing it in tomorrow. Ive also just cut the engine mounts from a Mk3 subframe and will be welding them onto the 6N2 subframe. This will free up some space and at the same time will make it a bit more rigid.
Hope to keep this thread updated a bit more, my business is repairing and diagnosing Vw s and Audi and business has been very busy thus the slow progress.

best of luck buddy.

Looking forward to seeing this! Curious to see pictures of the mounts, too!
Re: Hello from Australia , I'm building a 1.8t 6n2
Thanks guys, im ex Scotland too Adam!! i worked in Ingrams VW for moons. Anyway rolling in. I test fitted the engine, ive opted for the chassis mount gearbox but the drivers side is a total pain so im gonna do the original plan and go the subframe mount. Here is a pic to show where itll end up

Here is the engine mount idea

Here is a pic of where itll lie with regards to the cam belt cover, some clearance for the win

Here is a another pic showing the Agu manifold being tight even with a landing panel scallop, im now gonna go the 034 twin index manifold, check it out its a piece of work guys
Anyway here it is with the AGu one for now

Oh and here is a sneak peek of the recaros sitting in the car unmodded at the moment just sitting in thee to get the idea

Here is a sneem peek of the D90s i got

Here is one of the way ive done the AGU loom, ive kept the 6N2 loom in situ , man its a nightmare of a thing so going to leave well alone and splice the AGu one

Enjoy. Its a task and a half, but itll be a fun car when finished. Its very much long term.
