Hi all,
I've got a quick question: how do you get the window switches/central locking switches out of the surround?!
I've got it all of the car without issue, but I can't get any further! Planning to sand it all down and try plastidipping it and the door pulls, see how they all come out, but I'm stuck until I can separate the switches from the surround! Any help appreciated!
Joe

Re: Removing window switch surround
Tbh I don't think there is a specific way of getting them out.
When I was swapping my old surround for a new one I ended up cutting the old one open to get to the switches.
However I have since been able to get them out. Just takes a bit of wiggling and maybe a little screw driver to help
I've got some photos of another surround I have that I've modded to fit some new switches, but you can still see how the standard switches are held in.(just about- crappy iPhone quality)
They are literally just clipped in. Just very snuggley

Re: Removing window switch surround
Right, I get ya! Thanks!
I'll have a go later, I just didn't want to force it and break it (I've a bad history of doing this, then getting cross and breaking more stuff!
). I can at least see where I'm meant to be aiming now.

There's a phrase that goes with my car - 'nothing is ever simple with that f***ing car'
Many people have said it over the years, and it's very true- so I understand your fear of breaking it, as it's something that would happen to me too.
Just take your time and hopefully you should be ok. It's one of those thing where you start to get one side out then you're trying to ease out the other side to wiggle it out and -click- its popped back into place. D'oh!
Good luck!

Got this done in the end - asked my dad!
Your Polo sounds just like my old Fabia - try and do something simple and the general area you're working in falls apart in a protest.
Thanks though

Ah these are pretty easy to do just require some gentle leverage...
