Yep, there is a fix. It's called the phasing out of the 1.4 twincharged engine and replacement with a whole new engine.
Mate, Believe it when you see it and it works, they have had nigh on 9 years to fix the oil consumption issues with this motor, do you really, really in your heart of hearts believe that they are telling you the truth, or just what you want to hear....?
Although I agree with you to some extent on the engine. They won't phase it out as its still in production and being sold very well.
They will get some revisions done soon enough I'm sure of it. Like I've said in previous posts, this engine is the first of its kind with this sort of power there will be teething problems. But in your defence if the engine has been doing it for years then why adding another 80bhp to it was a good idea I don't know lol

If I don't get a phone call back from VW Cutomer Care in the next 2 weeks i'll take it from there. He said he isn't going to lie to me and he knows it's a problem and a pain in the arse for me and them but he assured me there will be a fix within 2 weeks.
You won't achieve much from VW Customer Care, my case has been moved into the Executive Office in VW now and still they are unable to help... well... thats what there telling me
Breaking news - my car is booked in for an oil consumption test!
I think I am familiar with this process now!
I did however get an apology from the dealer about the issues, as per normal and corporate policy they would not be drawn into discussion on this or any admission from them about the problems. I do sense however that things are coming to a head here and I was certainly not given the fob off.
New engine was discussed but clearly they cant commit until they get the results of the consumption test.

Thats who I'm dealing with! Everything has been alright just now, he's kept me informed by regular phone calls and emails. They're even paying my expences for a hire car when my car went in for waranty work
Just checked my oil level, 200 miles ago it was at the top of the hatchings, now it is down to halfway!

Mine gets delivered on Friday - I will mention on pick up they confirmed there are no examples of oil consumption issues. I will clearly not get any??!

Well done Stuart on the result, and for persisting with this, they could not have made it easy for you. I am too far down the road now (no pun intended) to even think about rejection of the car, as it is 18 months old. It drives really well and it is only recently that it has dawned on me that the piston ring 'fix' has not worked as it is using more oil again!

Do you all think it would be safe to order a new GTI now and depend on that it will be free from these issues? Considering that it would be a couple of months wait from you order to the car is actually put in production? As far as I have gathered these issues are not just on the early production run cars, but also on new (2011-12) ones?
About ready to place an order for a new car, but through a dealer in another country and importing it into Norway myself, as this saves almost £9000. It still is a £30000 car (with import taxes) over here, but not £39.000 as the list price is from the VW dealer here.
But it would be a lot of grief if the car is full of issues when the dealership you bought it from is 5 countries and 1000s of miles away.
Should get the new on this month I hope it has the new engine code! Mine has had a new engine and rings oil has calmed down quite alot tbh but it's just peace of mind to have a brand new one!
