9n advice for newbie

So I'm thinking about buying a 9n very soon,

I would like to know a few things thou,
I want a fuel efficient petrol but I heard the 1.2 is dangerously slow and the mpg isn't even good for a 1.2? Maybe I should get a 1.4?

Also I keep reading votex body kit. What is it and where do I get it and price ?? If I get a 9n I will want to add skirts and spoiler and gti grill etc just to make it look a bit sportier. How much will it cost me?

sorry I'm a Clio fan so I have no idea about polos but I will learn!

9N petrols are pretty slow when u compare to the gt. my advice if u want a 9n tdi. 9n3 gti

I have looked at the fsi 1.4, looks good too!

Fsi isn't 9n

Voted is a special order kit you cam get from dealer for a lot of dollar, call dealership for prices

Eh? Well when I was working out which Polo 9N to buy for my wife back in 2002, the 85PS version of the 1.4 16V petrol engine was an FSI engine!

Votex is the VW brand name for some aftermarket acessories.

heard a lot of good stuff about the diesel tdi and gt models.. i hate diesel but these sounds much better

Why do you hate diesels?

The votex kit is basically the aftermarket VW body kit, which is VERY hard to get hold of nowadays and when it does pop up its bloody expensive.
If i was you and wanted a petrol i'd have to go for the 1.4 16v as the 1.poo is slow. But then again im used to driving diesels, which are far better than petrols.. ;-)

mate go for a tdi so much better to drive than the petrol models and this is coming from someone who has owned a 100bhp 1.4 16v to a pd100 remapped (current car) the diesel is so much more easier to drive especially when remapped! (for when you get bored of the power a quick remap and bosh your car is on another level!) i put 52 litres into my pd100 and i get 580 miles out of a tank :) FCUK PETROL :P

Careful what you say there lol don't think any diesel will be as quick as a petrol with the same sort of stuff.
Compare the 1.4 tdi to the 1.4 petrol that or 1.9 tdi to a 1.8t
But in the 9n tdi are fastest ones.

Hmm I only really would get a 9n if I could make it look slightly better with skirts and spoiler, if they are really that hard to find mayb it's not worth it!
I hate diesels because of the horrible boat like noise they make, and I heard they are bad for short journeys?

Avoid modern diesels for short runs - DPFs need longer runs to avoid clogging and causing trouble.

The 1.2 isn't "dangerously" slow... Mrs Fonzooorooo's had hers from new... It's fine in town, will wind up to motorway speeds, and cruise along nicely. Like most other cars with small engines, overtaking from 40,50 and 60 is best avoided (changing down a gear just makes more noise - there's no more power!) ...

Saying that, short runs have had no noticeable effect - the original exhaust's still going strong, and it had a couple of years of a 1 mile journey to work.

My issues with it are the total lack of feel in the controls. Clutch, steering, brakes - they may as well all be on/off switches!

That said, I believe that DPFs on the PD engines weren't brought in on the Polos until around 2008? At least that's what I heard. That's a euro 5 engine regulation is it not? I was led to believe the PDs are euro 4 engines. Anyway my 2006 tdi doesn't have a DPF because it smokes! So you shouldn't have a problem. With TDi's or indeed any car with a turbo, you just have to keep the revs low and warm it up and to allow warm oil to circulate into the turbo before you give it the beans, short journeys are otherwise fine.

As above, It has to be said diesel's don't make a great noise, but I don't mind when you can achieve 58 real life mpg (just calculated from a fuel receipt I did today) and for times when you don't care about that you've still got explosive amounts of torque under your right hoof.

I went from a 9n 1.4 fsi 85 (credit to the engine, it was smooth and efficient with the injection system) to a comparatively tractor-like 9n3 pd100 and even though there's only 15bhp in it the turbo-diesel factor made it feel twice as powerful, and that was before the remap..

Oh, and the insurance switchover cost me £0.00, apparently people don't crash diesels :wink: I'm sure you can pick up a 1.9tdi Polo 9n in relatively good nick for around 3k.

EDIT: just checked autotrader, several handsome 9n 1.9 tdi sports available for 2,500 nuggets.
