ATD CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

hi,i`ve got a 1.9 tdi..eng code is atd and the flywheel/clutch assy needs renewing,i`ve been putting it off as long as i can but it`s in dire need now so i`ve got to do it..i believe that the golf/corrado g60 flywheel and vr6 clutch kit is a direct/better replacement as opposed to the dmf assy...has anyone done this conversion or does anyone know the part no. for the g60 flywheel and are they the same part across the g60 range ? i.e...are they the same in the golf and corrado..also been told that the mk3 golf gti eng. code abf are the same flywheel too...so can anyone help/confirm any of this please??

Give Darkside developments a call, they'll point you in the right direction. Below is a link to their Sachs 5 speed dmf and clutch kit (which will fit ATD), however if you read the page they also mention the g60 solid mass flywheel should you need it. Depending on how much torque you're producing a Sachs kit may be enough, that way you get to retain smoother running at low speeds.

thanks for that ben..i`ve spoke to scott at darkside..he explained it to me..but they also now do a different friction plate for the the tdi which further reduces vibration on idle but handles slightly less power (it won`t be a prob for me though).i just wanted to find out if anyone had any running experience of either of these set ups...plus,to be honest i`m trying to source a flywheel s/h if i can to save a chunk of money so i`m trying to get part no.s before i bid on any ebay stuff cos i want a genuine vw flywheel..pretty sure the clutch will be from darkside though.
btw...did you ever get your wheels refurbed?

Ah I see, okay I've never had the joy of replacing my dmf just yet so I don't know much else about the matter. Makes sense trying to get one secondhand though as they cost a small bomb!

As for the wheels I had planned to get it done during the summer, but its late June now and we've had almost no summer to speak of! I was thinking about getting the centres re painted in gunmetal grey and re polishing the outers thought it would look quite good! But now I want a set of monty 2s from a gt!

Is that sach plate updated or just an oe standard One?

the clutch set up i`m looking at is a vw g60 (solid) flywheel and a sachs vr6 clutch assy...which darkside do supply.scott at darkide has said that they also do another friction plate in that set up which will be smoother at idle,although he confirmed that they themselves had not had any issues with the vr6 friction plate,so from my point of view i`m just trying to do a bit of homework before i shell out,hence the interest to see if anyone has this set up.
the alternative friction plate is from another vw application,and i`m sure that scott said it`s a sachs item.

Euro carparts are doing 2 solid conversions atm, with discount code One is about 170 delivered and other is around 200, the more expensive one is a valeo which when I read about it seems it had something that makes it smoother.

ok thanks for that..but i`m gonna stick with the g60/sachs vr6 set...the flywheel in the euro parts kit won`t be gen. vw,and the pattern parts have been known to warp,also not a fan of the valeo clutches either...i`m not knocking anything there,just want to go with genuine+sachs stuff that`s all...

well i`ve gone down the g60/vr6 route..bought a gen. flywheel second hand for £60 which should be here today/tomorrow, got a sachs clutch from AVS for £116 which has just arrived,(only ordered yesterday so 10/10 to AVS). when i get the bolts from vw,it should still be around the £200 mark which i think is quite a good price.
just got to get motivated to actually do it now..
i`ll post on here when i`ve done it,and hopefully it`ll help others.
