Bad news regarding insurance

Post by lee gti 88 »

What insurance companies are most of you using for the GTI. I have had my renewal through at over £3200 which is astronomical compared to what I paid last year. When I have disputed this they have informed me that I have failed to declare two claims

Turns out when I have informed my insurance company that I had my number plates stolen and on a separate occasion my car (and another) was hit by a 3rd party when parked only a dinge and mirror but out of principle the fact the driver drove off I notified my insurance company just as a notice as stated in my policy documents.

It turns out that these have been entered onto the national insurance database and as a result thrown my renewal quote up. :x
So I don’t really want to get rid of another car as a result of insurance quotes, and I am just wondering if there are any specialist brokers that are understanding and reasonable on price???

Any advice is welcome as my insurance runs out on the 3rd!!!

Cheers!

Who are you with at the moment? I'm with Admiral - quotes are surprisingly good actually. Much better than anyone else would offer me. I pay less than half of what you were quoted. That said, I've also got a 'non fault' incident on record, as someone skidded on ice and went straight into the back of me a couple of years ago. Despite the fact I had absolutely nothing to do with it and didn't even claim as I sold the car 3 days later, I pay just under £500 more than I would without it on file. Legalised theft.

Stuff I've noticed - obviously you shouldn't do any of this...
1) If the car's got cosmetic damage only, get details etc but keep insurance out of it if possible.
2) Don't tell them about damage done in a car park by an unknown person if you aren't claiming off insurance! If you know who did it, call the police. It's leaving the scene of an accident. Principles are otherwise over-rated.
3) Try seeing if the price changes depending on whether you keep the car in a garage or on the street - sometimes street comes up cheaper which is a bit odd...
4) Any and all female family members/girlfriend/women you've met more than once should be added as additional drivers. Even if they never even sit in your car. Can't hurt so long as you're the main driver.
5) Be realistic about your mileage. Friend of mine say she does 10,000 miles a year because its 'easier.' She does about 3000 miles a year. It's not easier, it's stupid.

Rant over. Hope some of this is of use mate.

To be honest you shouldn't tell them anything more than they need to know.

I use sky insurance and this year cost me £522.

Im with elephant at the mo.. I Was paying under £800 when all legal cover etc is added on, so as you state its legalised theft how it can increase so much!!
I have learnt a valuable lesson from this... but at a cost! :x
I have got all femail drivers on to bring it down and i do around 4k miles a year.

Cheers for all the advice I will try Brentacre/Sky too see what they can offer...

Cheers!

I got mine for around £240 fully comp with More Than, half of what I was paying Swift Cover last year! That's with 1 non-fault claim and 4 years no claims bonus
