I'm not sure that the pic I posted is the definitive one.
I took it from a German forum,..

Looking better at it, it seems to be very provisional... The engine cover seems that cannot be installed anymore, right? :?: :?:

Yes - maybe that is a mock up or prototype, assuming we are looking at the proposed fix. I can't believe that the engine cover would require a redesign to accommodate the new part, but the cost would be small compared to a replacement engine for everyone.

Using Oil!

Was trying to work out the difference, but I forgot to look at the bottom of the image :)

Factory catch can pre-separator. Not a bad idea...

Something like this...?

I think it's a good think also for the Inter-cooler radiator: what about the oil that goes through it?

Right car change still going on! Ordered brand new in april told it will be here start of july... got told last week that they have cancelled it as I was going to refuse it if it had cave engine code. So now they have ordered it for one of the first cthe engines which mine is being built end of august! Will be interresting to see what happens nearer the time!

Yes - I don't know of a new engine, just revisions to the existing CAVE spec.

What do you think of those pics?
This is a faulty engine with 15.000Km and more than 1 liter per 1.000Km...

http://www.polovw.it/foro/viewtopic.php ... 56#p555748

Cylinders seem to be ok, head is not so encrousted...
I can't say about piston, brown is for sure exhaust side, but doesn't seem so bad below rings...

Someone can say if oil consumption for this engine could come from upper side (intake - oil separator) or from lower side (inappropriate piston ring's sealing)??

Anyone any further info about 'the fix'? I emailed my dealer earlier in the week but no surprise, no reply yet.

No further news here about the fix... :?
Just a couple of confirmation: two forum's users that had their engine replaced, keep on having the same problem, high oil consumption. :(

Many thanks Kawabanga, I topped up again today, I have used about 1.5 litres in 1,700 miles (2,720km), not massively excessive, but still see oil smoke out the exhaust. I will phone dealer next week to see what is happening.

Here people who had their engine replaced and still have the oil problem are following this way with VW: no spent money back, but a certain amount is determined for a new VW, composed by:
_Money spent for the car
_Optionals eventually installed after the purchase
_Discomforts

We had already one example like this and others are defining the trade. It seems that those people can choose from all the brand group (VW, Audi, etc.): good thing from one side, because you can spend an higher amount of money than the original one spent for the new car. From the other side not a good new, because it's another way to say "there's no solution"...

Unbelivable from VW... :(

Anyone think the separator will be a generalised recall for all Polo GTIs?

I don't think they will do a general recall Deako, all I know is I (like everyone else) am getting fed up waiting for VW to address this issue once and for all. Nearly a year now since my piston rings were replaced.
