At the MOT a few weeks back, I was told the emissions were high on our 3cyl.1.2 ... "Has it been serviced?" the tester asked... Well, it had just had fresh oil & filter and an air filter, temp sender a month or so earlier, no fault codes...
"Try running it on super unleaded, it cleans the fuel system as you drive"
So we did.
So far, it's returning BETTER miles to the pound than it did on regular unleaded. We've seen over 400 miles on a tank on long runs, and it hasn't done that for a LONG time!

I'd say, before anyone flames you for wasting money, that the above quote is the key thing. If it makes the engine slightly more responsive and that leads to better "miles per pound" then you have done the right thing, plus it could be cleaning out your fuel system and maybe the combustion chambers.
When the prices drops, I tend to give that fuel a quick glance/thought - but so far I'm too tight to give it a few tank fills - but I might some day!
