Had this problem for a long time now and, with summer approaching, would like to sort it!
The electric window works fine when putting it down but going up is a struggle; generally stops at half way and needs a helping hand, and then stops 1/2-1inch from the top and needs to be forced up.
Any ideas as to problems and remedies>??
Cheers

Re: 1998 passenger window problem
Take the motor out and apart and smother it in White Grease, then grease the runners and the wire paths
Works a treat most of the time
Re: 1998 passenger window problem
I had that same problem in my 99 polo.
My problem was with the button.
Try connect the button that works to the window that is faulty.
if everything works ok, the problem is with the button.
Very easy to repair.
open the button, with a small screwdriver.
clear the black stuff of the connectors part inside the button.
The problem is that the black stuff (burned metal) is isolating the power that reaches the window motor.
try it.
ive repair both my windows with 0 cost.
