I've tried to reset the service light on our 97 1.4 polo as it has been flashing up for an inspection. Been doing it for about two years as I have always serviced it myself, but as we're selling it I thought I'd buy the tool & reset the display. Plugged it all in & sure enough the 'insp' dissappeared only to be replaced by 'oil'. I cannot reset this, Tried three times on the oil servuice setting but it just stays there. Anyone had a similar problem or am I doing something wrong? Tool is the standard vag one from G&S that does VW's/Audi's & Volvo's. At a bit of a loss now.
Thanks,
Dean.

you shouldn't need the tool mate - sorry to tell you.
all you should need to do is hold the trip meter down, keep it held down, turn the ignition to on (don't start) and keep held for 10 secs.
this should reset oil / insp / whatever flashers
if not - i'd take it to vw as something is up
let me know if that works
