No - The car is far from a heap! I still have confidence this will be sorted, but the car a far as I am concerned is brilliant to drive! Despite this, I would still buy another Polo!

It is a good car. Better than a lot of cars have paid far more for. Fun to drive, well built apart from the mirror switch and different.

Cool! Yes - unbelievably I don't think it is a complicated fix.

I asked some news in a German forum about the breather modification, here's the answer:
After nearly 800 kilometers driven after the conversion, I can only see with a lot of goodwill and most exact measurement of an oil consumption might max ~ 100ml, say, it has helped!
From a software update was never mentioned, and it was not done at my local dealer.
Power is still enough there.

Here's a pic of the engine, no visible modifications to the pipe...
In the German forum they are talking about a different inner section of the pipe.

Many thanks Kawabanga for the update, 100ml per 800km(500 miles) sounds like a big improvement, in my book anyway!

Early days obviously with this and I have still yet to hear from my dealer about it, it seems that there are some reservations about the software update. I suspect its aim is to detune performance slightly, although in reality I would imagine it would not be noticeable anyway.

Thanks again,

Just changed now my oil (12.000Km) with this one (just to check for some improvements compared to Castrol Edge), and after letting drain the old oil for about one hour, I hadded 3.5 liters to reach max level on the dipstick (end of rugged area). Then I drove for about 5 km and checked again, I had to add other 0.3 liter to reach again max level (actually 2mm over rugged area)...

So I guess the standard capacity is 3.5 liters and letting it drain well you might have to add a little more oil (after one hour was still dripping, at warm engine).

Let's see if Bardhal is better than Castrol.

BTW, I also ordered the new VW breather pipe (no warranty for me having an oil consumption within tolerances): 63€

How did that happen Stu?

Mine was checked yesterday and a new breather pipe ordered. Not sure how long I will need to wait for it though.

Not to sure... It happened before with a dodgy weld on the radiator :(

Lucky they have the parts in stock for the breather pipe so will get that fitted while they fit the radiator.
