Well, not everything in life goes to plan. With a great deal of reluctance I've decided to sell my mk1 polo. It is a very early example (first production year?) complete with the early, better looking in my opinion dash, and chrome bumper. I was intending to turn the car into a rally car for competing in classic car rallies. But realistically the car is too good and too original to turn into a rally car, unlike my previous beetle which was featured in Volks World. Instead I have found a nice pre 82 mk1 Golf which will enable to build an authentic rally replica of Peter Noads old rally car, for those that have heard of him.

I have found the wee polo a great run around, so light, just sips the petrol, and great fun to drive. To be honest I love driving it but I simply dont have space to keep the Polo as well as the rest of the fleet.

Since I bought it I have replaced the (original) timing belt, water pump, thermostat, electric fan switch, rear box and given it a service with fresh plugs, points and condensor. The fuel pump packed up so that has been replaced as well. The brakes have been checked over and they are in good shape. Suspension is fine as well.
This is a nice original solid 76 model year car. The chrome bumpers are very good as is the original interior and dash. All the switch gear works bar the original radio, which I left cause it looks great in the dash. The body work has been resprayed at some point. There is a small dent in the drivers door, and some rust on the front panel and odd patch on bottom of sills but not serious or holed. I have a genuine VW panel that I will include with the sale. The front panel is not holed, but I’m a perfectionist so I would have replaced it.

The story goes that the car was owned from new by a university professor until 2008, when it second owner bought it, refurbed it and put it back on the road. I bought it in July with the intension of building a light weight road rally car, but realistically, its too rare for enduring that treatment

I'm looking for what I paid for it which was £2400, or open to offers. The car is near Edinburgh.
