Itll fit, but as said you have to use a modded mk4 golf slip ring to get the airbag working

I have fitted one, thats my picture

They bolt straight on, you will have to mess about to get the airbag working or alternatively you can just put a couple of resistors in to make the light go out (similar to if you installed a momo wheel).

The hardest part is getting the polo one off, fitting the new one is relatively simple.

You will need to drill the steering wheel in order to get the slip ring to bolt on correctly.

I don't care how much they cost I've always wanted one!! I would like to make the airbag work!! Do you know if you can just cut the plug off the airbag loom and solder new one on?? Oh polo steering wheel is easy to get off! Had it off for the cruise control!!

Taking out the steering wheel (the airbag specifically) is pain in the ass. Be prepared

You can't just cut the plug off and solder the new plug on, it is totally different, to get the air bag working, you would need to change the slip ring for a newer one.

If you buy the wheel with buttons then they won't work either, still trying to find a way to get them to work, or at least light up.

They are expensive, but worth every penny in my opinion, gives the whole feel of driving the car a new lease of life and it's really thick compared to the standard one which is nice.

Take a look here

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Lederlenkrad-VW- ... 3cca85c00c

I got this one and all i have to say is...perfect! Even better than the one you want. True leather and absolutely perfect job. You can customize style and stitching color and keep the original airbag.
Didn't believe it would be that good until i got my hands on it. Feels like driving a different car.

Nah i want OEM only! I know electronics very well. Sorting the slip ring cant be that hard. And the buttons i couldnt really care less about. Im sure it wouldnt be that hard to make them light up.

But i see a few people have done it now but no one never makes a guide on how to do it!!

I used resistors on my wheel , the air bag light comes on when you start the car as normal but then goes out after a few seconds.

If you get the buttons to light up (if you buy a wheel with buttons) I would very much love to know how its done.

The wheel comes with a canbus controller inside the wheel with two ribbon cables going to the buttons.

I know there is a guide somewhere to change the wiring over for the airbag, I think it was on a golf forum (I think i searched for mk5 mfsw airbag loom).

You will also need vagcom to program the airbag, but as the polo does not have canbus, I don't think this is actually possible.

Two months ago i fitted a golf mk5 gti steering wheel in my polo 6n2 GTI 2000 model
A golf mk4 slip ring is really not needed.

If you have ESP, the original polo slipring will fit perfectly
If you dont have ESP, dont bother, align the polo slipring to the back of the mk5 or mk6 wheel, with 3 cut off points from a black permanent marker,
Push it on, so it leaves 3 black dots on the back of the mk5 wheel, drill the 3 4mm holes and screw both together.

Thats all needed to fit mechanically

As for the airbag, cut of the plug of the polo slipring, get a mk5 or mk6 wiring loom and cut of the airbag plug as well.
Solder the plug from golf wiring loom on the 6n2 slipring, and be carefull to solder the tiny resistor in the plug the same way as it was, really easy to see if you clip the back of the connector open.
Dont forget to insulate the whole thing thoroughly.
Works perfectly with the mk5 airbag in my polo 6n2 gti, never saw the airbag light coming up, no errors in vcds as well.

As for the horn, check out these to links below. Seems a bit complicated but basicly when pressing the golf horn the two metal plates inside the airbag (normally distanced by 4 springs)
touch each other. Connect the wire from the 6N2 slip ring to the upper metal plate connector in the airbag the most far away from the steering column, and make a new wire going from the lower metal plate connector to
a grounding point, the big 24mm nut is perfectly suitable for this.

As a mk6 golf wheel will fit a mk5 without any problems i dont see why you couldnt use a polo slipring to fit the mk6 wheel (with a mk6 airbag plug)
Im from holland btw so apologies for the language

Certainly worth it imo

Thanks for sharing the links hansdevogel89, the one link is what I was looking for yesterday to explain.

Did you have any buttons on your wheel ?
